Madhorse2004
Dying to Know is an original play by Maine playwright David Butler, which he wrote and revised over the last 10 years. Mad Horse produced a staged reading of Dying to Know via it's By Local program in 2015. With tenderness and humor Dying to Know explores our struggle to come to terms with death. Our mission is to produce plays that compassionately examine and illuminate the enduring aspects of the human experience.

Our work focuses on areas of social concern, personal transformation, and the building of lasting community relationships. Only through gifts, from generous individuals like you, are we able to share our passion. With your support, we can continue to produce what Mad Horse does best: live theater that reflects all the power and passion that are at the core of being human.
Services
Mad Horse Theatre Company was founded in 1986 in Portland as a professional resident theater ensemble. The Company quickly developed a reputation for innovative interpretations of cutting-edge contemporary plays as well as the dramatic classics. After performing in a variety of venues, we secured a lease on our own building in 2009 from the city of South Portland.
Homecoming: An Odyssey is a season-long devising project led by a team of designers and artists working collaboratively over a nine-month period. The project aspires to create a totally original production drawing from Homer's The Odyssey but transcending a linear narrative to explore the theme of homecoming.

This is theater that stretches your mind. Intimate, fine acting, and always something special happening. The best chocolate chip cookies, too!

This was my first experience at a true theater. So my option should be limited. We had a great time watching Love Sucks, the interaction with the crowd was spot on. A very small place but I feel that is what added to the experience of watching the performers , litterally inches away. Really can't wait to go again.

Mad Horse is a fantastic place to enjoy theatre in Maine. Not only do they put on great shows, they give so much back to the community that you feel like you're watching the improvement of Maine theatre happen around you.
Their small warehouse black box feels cramped at first, but show after show I am amazed at seeing what they can do and how they can morph their space. The three-sided audience keeps you in the atmosphere of the play while also allowing you to simultaneously experience art with a total stranger.
Pay what you can tickets offered for every show, and fantastic student discounts

Gone to two shows now, loved every minute. The cookies at the concession stand are fresh baked and so good. They make sure you're prepared for the show with reminders of how long it is and to use the bathroom before the show, ear plugs if it's loud, etc. Will definitely go again.

Watched 'The last days of Judas Iscariot' here. Lovely quiet location, awesome play, awesome actors, awesome setup. The only thing I would take away from the place is that it is rather small and therefore gets REALLY hot. BUT, I'm not theater goer until only recently so perhaps it's the way of the rodeo.
Cant wait to go back!
