We have harnessed the thermoelectric power of phonons to revolutionize how the world cools and heats. Our solid-state chip is smaller, quieter, sustainable, more reliable, and more economical than any other cooling technology-and it's upending a century of antiquated compressor technology and traditional methods of refrigeration.
We've challenged the traditional ways of cooling and heating by creating the most powerful, quiet, and efficient solid-state technology. Our chip is the element of innovation helping designers and engineers rethink solutions to the world's toughest thermal challenges. Thermoelectrics have been around for over a century, yet nobody has perfected it-until now.
A thermoelectric device is made up of specialized semiconducting materials connected in a circuit that is sandwiched between two thermally conductive ceramic substrates. When the circuit is energized heat is moved electronically in the direction of the current creating a temperature difference between the two sides of the device.
Transport of thermal energy moves heat from the thermoelectric cooler (TEC) away from the cooled space inside a refrigerator. This design involves pairing the TEC with a heat sink, which dissipates the heat. An inherent problem in traditional designs is that high thermal resistance heat sinks limit the performance and application of this technology.
Unlike traditional thermoelectric systems, Phononic's multipronged, multilayered approach to thermal controls provides the ultimate system efficiency. Compressors cycle on and off, delivering wide swings in temperature and giving risk to spoilage and freezing. Thermoelectrics offer variable control, high precision and energy efficient capabilities.
