YMCA Camp Hanes
Learning your ABC's takes on new meaning at YMCA Camp Hanes. Guests experience accomplishment, build a sense of belonging and develop character through our emphasis on the core values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility and faith using Christ as our role model. Camp Hanes is committed to building relationships while accepting and encouraging people to explore who they are in an environment which is safe, supportive, challenging and fun.

Since 1927 Camp Hanes has been creating memorable outdoor experiences for the young and young at heart. The "400 Acre Memory Maker" provides opportunities for personal growth for our campers and guests through our resident camp and day camp programs, outdoor education opportunities and a variety of retreat/conference offerings for groups of all types.
Services
At YMCA Camp Hanes we love our summer campers, conferees, and Outdoor Education students, chaperones and teachers. We are committed to ensuring every experience is helping campers Be Their Best Self! We do this through developing achievement, belonging and building relationships. We use our mission and our values of honest, caring, respect, responsibility and faith to help guide us.
If you would like to donate to the Send a Kid to Camp Campaign via mail or fax, please contact Jen de Ridder at (336) 983-3131 or jen.deridder@ymcanwnc.org. You can also donate online below! In 2020 we were thankful to have a safe, fun summer full of memories and friendships. Help us continue to provide this experience so all campers can build achievement, relationships and a sense of belonging.
Our week long Traditional Camp allows children to experience adventures in a safe, caring camp environment. Activities will enhance a camper's self esteem, confidence, and social skills. Children will live in an 10-12 camper cabin with at least two well-trained, responsible staff leaders. A positive, Christian setting is provided for the campers at all times with their own age levels.
The LIT is a two week program designed for young men and women who have a drive to learn leadership skills. The first week is spent in leadership training. Through a series of group discussions, team building, initiatives, and challenge course participation we explore each camper's inner potential and leadership abilities.
Welcome to six days of summer that you'll never forget! Because hanging out around the local pool can't compete with dangling 50 feet up, on a sheer rock face. Or careening down a churning whitewater river. Pack it up, everybody.

Sunday morning through Wednesday evening, you'll be offsite in West Virginia, where you'll experience an awesome combination of camping and whitewater rafting with Adventures on the Gorge, as well as, caving with Lost World Caverns. And once you're back at YMCA Camp Hanes, you'll get a kick out of more fun and challenging activities such as our Treetop Village, our Shotgun Range and our paintball course.

We have 4 kids.
Three older boys and finally a girl (13 yrs)
None of the boys went ever to a camp.
Today ... I regret it.
When I picked up my daughter Dilara today ... she teared up.
I did not know why but of course I was immediately concerned.
She did not want to leave.
Dilara could not stop talking about this week ...
I realized -- yes ... -- she had the best week of her life !! (that's how she described it)
I HIGHLY recommend Camp Hanes.
Everything I have heard today tells me -- they make it so much fun and still assure your child is super safe.
Dilara will go again next year and

I can not describe the joy this place brings to many kids and consler each year and this is my 4th year and it is amazing how much you get to do and the amazing people you get to meet as an LIT,CIT,Camper, and consler. The food is good the people that run the camp is amazing and as a camper you meet new kids each year and new consler my conslers this year were Jacob and Ian and they are the best and I wish I could still be with you now and for the rest of this summer. So if you want to go but thing it will not be fun it will so go.

My son has gone 3 years now. He absolutely loves it. There's always tons of stories when he comes back. Well worth it if you can get your kids in there. They will remember it forever.

Every time I need help from someone at Camp Hanes I want to cry.....tears of JOY!!!! I have not had one single issue with them. Their director Carmina is absolutely a joy and is always helpful. My daughter had a 100% blast this past summer and hopefully she can go again. The price includes breakfast, lunch, a snack, a free water bottle and/or t-shirt each week, and invaluable and memorable experiences. You can always apply for assistance if you feel you are not able to afford it, they are so willing to work with you as much as they can. This place is truly a God given blessing.

We just spent two and a half days. With 11 special need children! The staff is amazing! The food was top-notch and a lot of it! I would recommend this camp for anybody! You definitely, don't have to worry about the staff, taking care of your kids! Because they are amazing! They put so much time effort and sweat! Into making sure these special needs children! Got to do everything safe, and made it so fun and enjoyable! I myself, did not want to go home! Make sure you take a good fishing pole a Shaky Head a jig and a senko worm! A lot of fish to catch! Don't be like me and leave your fishing pole

An excellent camp for team building exercises for ALL ages. My medical school class came here this week and I don't know a single person who didn't fully enjoy the day. The counselors are very good at what they do and the chefs were excellent. We were served salmon and chicken with corn, rolls, sweet tea, and apple pie. It was surprisingly great.

I think it's pretty important that I don't talk about the actual activities because half the fun is working as a team to get through the obstacles! Just know that everything is maintained wonderfully, the grounds are very organized
