Asbestos is a group of minerals that is composed of fine, durable fibers. Because it is resistant to fire and many chemicals, it has been used for decades in the formation of insulation, flooring, ceiling tiles and much more. It wasn't until the 1980s that the use of asbestos in household materials was stopped.
Mold is composed of microscopic spores that exist everywhere. It's indoors, outdoors and even floating through the air. It only becomes a serious problem when water is introduced to a surface and left untended. Once mold begins to grow, it can spread alarmingly quickly. It will weaken walls and release harmful allergens into the air, putting you in danger.
You may be in danger if you live or work in a building that was built before 1978. For a significant portion of the 1900s, lead was a common component in the making of interior and exterior paint. It was added to increase durability, repel moisture and speed up the drying process. It wasn't until the late '70s that the full dangers of lead poisoning were discovered and the use of it declined.
Vermiculite is a naturally occurring mineral that is capable of expanding to up to 30 times its original size when heated at very high temperatures. This expansion, as well as the lightweight and fire-resistant properties of vermiculite, made it a common choice for insulation. In fact, vermiculite was used to create insulation for many homes and businesses in the U.S. throughout the 1900s.

Hired Kascon to come in and remove asbestos pipe wrap in my basement and crawl spaces. They were phenomenal from the get go. I called to set up a free estimate and the estimator came that evening. The two gentlemen that did the abatement were very professional and sealed off the entire area. Afterwards, they showed me what they did and the basement actually was cleaner than before they came in since they HEPA vacuumed before and after the abatement. I would highly recommend these guys if you have asbestos you need removed the right way.

I'm in the process of looking for a reliable abatement company to do some work on my old house in Madison County, NY. Kascon is well located to serve the area, so they were among the first companies I contacted for an estimate. They did a thorough walk-through inspection the same day I called them and gave me a detailed estimate within a few days. On the basis of these first interactions, I recommend their courteous, professional customer service and their excellent rep Anatoly Karptsov.
