Wihi Benefactors Help
Our mission is to empower our community to become knowledgeable, inquiring, open-minded, life-long learners by fostering caring relationships and celebrating our rich diversity. We aspire to transform lives through a socially just, inclusive, and globally enriched educational environment rooted in empathy and compassion.

There will be no hybrid or virtual options offered this year as we recognize the academic and mental health challenges students face as a result of the isolation, loss, and trauma of the pandemic this past year and a half. All students will start the day at 8:25 am (compared to 7:45 am pre-pandemic).

I'm a graduate of Huntington University with a B.S. in Social Studies Secondary Education and minors in teaching theater, radio, television, and speech. In 2010, I received my M.Ed. I am a life-long Michigander, growing up in the Metro-Detroit area. I have lived all over the state, earning degrees from Oakland University, Michigan State University, and the University of Michigan.
Prepare our students to become knowledgeable, inquiring, and reflective citizens serving as empathetic ambassadors committed to a lifetime of personal, local, and global enrichment in our integrated world. Washtenaw International High School is a free, public, consortium high school for students in participating Washtenaw County school districts.
I grew up in Ann Arbor and played ball in Ypsi as a kid - this is truly home for me. Since joining the WIHI community, I've focused on serving students and families in areas of college counseling - college application support, recommendation writing for our amazing seniors.

Additionally, I have a passion for supporting students academically and in social/emotional areas, and I'm proud to be part of the WIHI team in developing programs like our Suicide Prevention lessons, Lunch Learning Lab, bullying prevention and more!Prior to the birth of my twin son and daughter in 2013, I was a counselor at Tecumseh High School for three years.
I studied at the University of Michigan, where I got my BA in secondary education with a major in English and a minor in Earth/space science. I have worn many hats at WIHI, including Head Graduate Assistant, Admissions and Enrollment Coordinator, and Enrichment Coordinator. In every course I teach, I try to inspire my students to be open-minded and caring.
Mrs. Thompson came to WIHI after teaching 3yrs in the Northville School District. She also lived and taught in China for one year. Her contribution to our school includes her three subject areas, Biology, Environmental Science, & Chemistry, as well as sponsoring numerous co-curricular activities. Students will enjoy getting to know her in and out of the classroom setting.

As the COVID-19 pandemic has, in essence, finished my high school days early (I was a senior this year), I feel that it is now appropriate to give a completely honest review of this school.
First of all, this school is not like most. It is rather politicized, leaning heavily liberal. I'm not saying this is a bad thing, but just know that although this school is very tolerant and open-minded towards topics such as religion, race, culture, gender identity, etc. conservative political views are very taboo and might get you into some trouble. In addition, it is an IB diploma school, in other words

I love this school! Each and every day I look forward to a day full of learning. There is no place I'd rather be than Washtenaw International High School. The teachers are incredibly nice, and the school is an all around supportive place to be.

The Principal and a few teachers are the only reason this school gets a star. The Assistant Principal is as fake as can be, she doesn't work with parents on issues with thr children. She also doesn't confirm problems with the students before calling and creating an uproar in the household. The education this school provides is the BEST in this area, the communication between some faculty and parents is the worse. If they fired Mrs. Garcia, they'd be top notch

WIHI is easily the best school I've been able to go to. The majority of students take their academics seriously, the staff is incredibly supportive and helpful to students, the skills we end up developing due to being in the IB Programme help in every day life. On top of that, the school is run by one of the most calm, collected, kind-hearted people I've met; Mrs. Nhu Do. She is both incredibly supportive to every single student in the school and is a great problem solver in general. Even more, the WIHI community takes mental health seriously - something no school I have gone to in the past has

A community of talented, caring teachers; bright, self-motivated kids; and involved active families. Great college-prep education with caring guidance through soft-skills like time management with the added bonus of an inclusive global perspective. Feel incredibly fortunate to have this opportunity for my kids.

Fabulous, caring, engaged teachers. Wonderful administration. Diverse community. WIHI truly embraces the concept "it takes a village". Learning is student centered, with an emphasis on collaboration. Truly a phenomenal school. We are so fortunate to have this extraordinary option available to us.
