Merriman was founded in 1983 as a fee-only investment advisory firm with a strong focus on excellent service, smart investing and long-term goals. We've grown significantly since then, now managing more than $3.5 billion in assets for clients across the country, and while we hold true to those ideals we have also come to realize that investment advice is only a small piece of the puzzle.
Paul Merriman established Merriman in 1983 with the philosophy of taking care of clients first and foremost. His son, Jeff Merriman-Cohen took over several years later and worked to create a culture where clients and employees alike were treated as family. Jeremy Burger has continued on this tradition by hiring exceptional individuals who respect and appreciate their co-workers.
A Merriman Advisor will employ a comprehensive wealth management approach to help you achieve your goals while preserving and protecting the wealth you have worked hard to accumulate. Our proactive and collaborative process helps us understand who you are and what you want to accomplish so we can implement a customized plan for all areas of your financial life: investments, taxes, estate planning, insurance, charitable giving, and more.
While your feelings about money play a prominent role in determining the strategy that is right for you, we don't think anyone's emotions-including our own-should have a role in making everyday decisions about your investments. Everything we do in your portfolio is based on using decades of academic research to identify an optimal mix of assets and make investment shifts accordingly.

I see the reviews are mostly old but I am a current client and couldn't be happier. It feels like I am investing with friends instead of a wealth management company. After seeing a bunch of cheezy sales presentations from other firms, I walked into Merriman, talked to my potential future advisor about skiing, music, travel, family, and eventually my money, I was sold. He didn't try to "close" me on a sale like the others had and didn't even try to schedule a follow up. He just gave me back of the envelope financial plan and some information about how they invest and said

What were they thinking? After YEARS running a successful accounting business where the seemed to sort of take care of their clients, they moved downtown, changed their name, and dropped all their bread and butter accounts by sending a disrespectful, impersonal letter. Not very classy!?! They must have chucked MILLIONS of dollars worth of business out the window. Would you trust these people to manage your money??? I think you'd be better off getting investment advise from a Ouija board!!!

After their accountant made a costly omission, they denied responsibility and basically left us on our own. They seem to be more interested in their own profits than watching out for their clients' financial well-being.
Would not recommend.

After our business received correspondence from Berkman Purdy & Lindstrom that they were moving to a high-rent tower in downtown Seattle, changing their name to 'Merriman Berkman Next', and increasing their hourly accountant fees, we waited for the next shoe to fall. And it did: in the form of a letter that they were dropping us as a client in order to focus on ones who would fit more neatly into their new financial planning service structure.

We had spent many hours working with their accountants to set up a system to handle our unique business situation and felt hung out to dry
