Services
Our company was founded in 2007 in the historic Carytown shopping district of Richmond, VA. We build, sell and repair bicycles as well as stock bicycle apparel, accessories and components. We are deeply invested in bicycle culture and community. For this reason we take great pride in offering the best experience with every customer we meet.
Because space is limited we ask that you pick up your bike within 7 business days of its completion date. Bikes not picked up within 7 business days will be charged a storage fee of $1.50 per day. Bikes unclaimed after 30 days will be disposed of. If you are unable to pick up the bicycle within 7 business days we ask that you notify the service department at the time of check-in.
Our Cycle Club is for the ever aspiring. The rider always looking for new challenges, testing their limits and taking the ride to the next level. Whether you are riding with us on the race course, shredding trail, or crushing your commute in rain or shine, we want to reward you for your efforts. It might be the podium, it might be your health, it might be exploring the world by bike.
Tim and John and Will are our current trio of Retul certified bike fitters. Tim and John are owners and founders of Carytown Bikes, while Will is going into his fifth year as a principal, full time staff member at our flagship store. While all of our fit experts come from dedicated (and highly successful) racing backgrounds, they are mostly looking for an enjoyable time out on their bikes just like everybody else.
When it comes to bikes, wheels happen to be pretty important. Don't they deserve attention to detail when being assembled? Carytown Bicycle Company knows that a good pair of wheels can make the difference between a mediocre bike and true riding experience. We have the components and knowledge to professionally hand-build wheels that will perform better and outlast anything made in a factory.

Previously to this trip I had always had a good experiences with Carytown Bikes, but. I went in for a ring upgrade on my S-Works, simple enough or so I thought. The rings I wanted were not available but they could get ones that were close to what I wanted. They installed the ring set and I took it out to the Capitol trail to give it a try. It shifted once from the small ring to the large ring just fine. When it was time to shift back to the small ring, it threw the chain off. I put it back on and it continued down the trail only to for the bike to throw the chain several more times.. I took it

During COVID, I, too, was turned away at the locked door, unless, I was told, I had something specific in mind to buy. What an incredibly screwy idea. Can't be bothered by people simply wandering around in the store. If you're open, you're open.
Today (09/03/21), at two in the afternoon, when I called three times, no one answered, telling me a mailbox was full or had not been set up. Employees may have a love for bikes, but little interest in helping people, just hanging out in a bike shop and drawing a paycheck. A LBS faces competition from online sales, so all it can offer

Moved from NYC to VA where there isn't a shortage of great local Bike shops, found a great place with knowledgeable people at Carytown. Staff is inviting, warm and helpful. In particular, I spoke with Brandon at length about a bike fit and insoles, dropped a ton of knowledge and thoughts, which were in line with a lot of the top YouTube bike fitters. I will be going here for the foreseeable future!

In 2021 I started to travel a lot for work and everytime I'm in a new town I call all the LBSs asking what's in stock. Usually it's just the $5000 carbon triathageeks whips left. Because all the more reasonably priced ones have been siezed upon, across the country ,as soon as they arrive, like buzzards on road kill.
Upon arriving in Richmond the first call I made was to Will and I explained what i was looking for; a 9r with a 1x drive, and that I'm 5' 8". And he's like i gotchu. I have Rockhoppers Elite and Comp on your schmizse, in stock. In stock I exclaimed. I made it down there pronto.

This is a bicycle store where you can buy a bicycle that they sell and also they will fix a bicycle you own if it is broken and you pay them to fix it for you! I own a bicycle that was broken and I gave it to them to fix and they called me to say it was fixed so I went back to the store and I paid them money and they gave it back to me and it want broken anymore! You should give them your broken bicycle to fix if you have a broken bicycle!

Went there today (5/9) about an hour before close, and the fellow staffing the front was incredibly helpful. I wish I got his name so I could give him a shout-out! He helped me pick out a new, much more comfy/safe-feeling helmet and some small accessories to start getting back into cycling. At no point did he seem uninterested in helping me; he genuinely appeared to enjoy educating me and was very knowledgeable and super friendly. It was such a nice experience and I didn’t feel pressured into getting the pricier gear. He just helped me find what I actually needed at reasonable prices.

I was on my bike and my rear tire developed a hole. Went to another bike shop and was told I had to leave it. The guy at the front desk was completing a sale to another customer and he stopped and told me to head back to the service department. Bentley walked out from behind the counter, looked at the tire, said the tube looked fine, showed me a replacement and said it would take about 15 minutes. 10 minutes later he waved me back and said he'd adjusted the gears since they needed it and I was out the door. Can't say enough about Carytown Bicycle Company's customer service. Highly recommended and

Awesome experience with Joseph and the owner (I believe John). I arrived early today and he let me in to drop off the bike early and was able to take care of the issue with the tire same day! I had originally purchased the bike from a neighboring competitor, but decided with getting the bike from Cary town bikes instead. Experience was a a lot better and personal. If you are getting a bike or service done I would definitely recommend this shop!

I have not gone inside this place, and I won't. I called up looking for a brake bleed kit for my Avid Elixir brakes. After being placed in hold (where I assume some kids got their up sell strategy together) I was told that they could order the kit for me for $80. Yeah thank I can find things on Amazon, too and exactly what I need for half that. But really, said the post-pubescent thing on the phone, since my brakes were SO OLD that he recommended an entirely new set of brakes. Ok I'm not really a 46 year old aircraft mechanic who just needs to source the right parts and tools, I&apos

I recently purchased a bike from Carytown Bicycle Company and I had a fantastic experience. The staff was very welcoming, kind and knowledgeable. They answered all of my questions, showed me bikes that best suited my needs, and not once did they try to push me out of my price range. If you are in the market for a new bike, then do yourself a favor and stop by this shop!

Bought my first decent bike here, and I was impressed. Bought my second good bike elsewhere, and I was less than thrilled. Came back here several years later looking to get back into mountain biking. The personnel may have changed a bit, but the helpfulness, friendly-ness and knowledge has only gotten better! Even during the "pandemic," they are well organized, quick and fun! Special thanks to Will for getting me rolling out the door on my new Yeti ARC. Seriously, give the dude a raise, or some free, top-shelf gear! Best bike shop around, hands down!

I never leave reviews but I need to share my experience. I have been to this place a total of 6 times for random repairs on my bike and my girlfriend's bike and they have been SO helpful every single time.
They're super respectful of distance during covid and insanely friendly even though they probably deal with hundreds of Karen's and Kevin's all day.
I am leaving this because the most recent experience I brought in my Bianchi to get some cables replaced and the turnaround times were super long everywhere. They hit me up and were able to get my bike in and out super quick

Back in Richmond for another few months and had both of my bikes dropped off at CBC to be put together again - this was done very quickly and they were set up exactly how the shop in Missouri who boxed them up prepared. Ready to roll.
Broke a spoke on my Enve this last Saturday afternoon and the wheel was ready to go on Sunday morning. The crew is all super friendly, helpful, and hustling through COVID to keep people riding. I am glad I was able to update my 2016 review.

The store is great, it is clean and the layout just flows. Customer service is on point they just touch base with you and let you shop around. I had a Retül bike fit which was a smooth and straight forward process. I was able to see and learn different things about my technique I didn't know before. Which was nice and they were quite knowledgeable about body to bike joining. My frame purchase was seamless and they even packed it up for transport, which was a step above! I called to schedule a bike build and I brought my frame and parts in. I politely gave my tidbits on how I'd

This is where I take my bike to get it fixed. Fast, efficient service, and the guys are cool. Don't go to Agee's. Agee's sucks. Last time I had a flat, I took it to these guys. He fixed it while I waited (thankfully, in Carytown, there's lots to do while you wait). I only had to kill about 20 minutes. The fix came to $20. I don't go anywhere else in town anymore. Love this place.

You won't a nicer and more helpful staff than here. I shop here for random bike needs relatively frequently since it's near my weekend job. While prices may not be able to compete with national chains, you can always leave knowing you made a good purchase that will benefit you. Most recently o needed a new light and they charged it for me before I arrived because I was going to be out past dark.

Excellent service. Getting back on my road bike after a 'long' hiatus. Old classic sea foam Bianchi.
Staff was exceptionally responsive to my needs and seems to have take heed to older posts here. Hooked my up with a 'wide' road show. And have me a bit of a discount on a higher end brand since they couldn't find the brand I was looking for. I paid more but got a better shoe. Chatted it up with one of the owners (Tim?) and he offered me a coke and to hang out a while to ensure the shoe was a good fit. Can't say enough about the awesome space here very cool shop and

Beautiful shop Beautiful bikes. Beautiful employees.
I mean the bikes are all very nice! High end mountain climbing bikes. High end road racer bikes. High end beach cruiser fat cat bikes. But oh boy there are some very nice young men here to help you find what you need!
One boy in the service department with shaggy hair. He looked VERY young. He went above and beyond to help me find the right saddle for my rather large rear end!

've been using these guys ever since I moved into Richmond over a decade ago. Their service is top-notch and the selection of products and accessories they have is really good for someone who takes biking seriously.
Recently had a custom build done by these guys and the frame, wheel and component upgrades they suggested were spot on. Props to Kyler and Sean for walking me through the process, keeping costs reasonable and the value quotient high!
