Lake Palourde, which has a surface area of approximately 17 miles, was named by the early French settlers. It was called "Lac Palourde, " which, when translated into English is "Lake Clam." The abundance of clams found along the shore line became a staple in the diet of the early Indian inhabitants.
We love camping here. Although we are just 30 minutes away, we absolutely love it here. When we come we often book for 3 days but end up booking extra days. It never fails. We rather the inside of the park rather than the extension; however, we often camp on the extension because the spots book up rather quickly.

I reserved online at a rate of $40 for Saturday night and $20 per night for Sunday and Monday. I was told at check-in that I owe an additional $40 because the online reservation charged the wrong rate for Monday and Tuesday. In addition to that, the lady at the office was extremely rude. She kept talking over me when I tried to have a conversation about the problem.
She adjusted my check out date so I wouldn’t owe more $, but she’s still trying to over-charge me for one night. Problem not solved.

Do not tent camp here! There is a highway right behind the tent area making it impossible to sleep. When we showed up there was also some people set up in our “reserved” spot. Unless you can sleep through 18 wheeler Jake brakes and loud truck exhausts I would look else where. Some of the tent spots are tiny also. We moved campgrounds after the first night. I tried to get my money back but they wouldn’t let me. You have been warned!

Very clean and kept up park! We love going here when in town visiting family. The kids can swim without worry being as the net off as far as u can go and it's all knee deep. They have a playground and BBQ pits located throughout the park. Also a volleyball net, walking trail, bathrooms, and snowball/concession stand. Not bad at all for Louisiana waters! Lol
