The focus at the Anchorage Cooperative Preschool, aka ACP, is a child-centered philosophy that incorporates family and community lifestyles and ways of being. Specific activities emerge from the children's interests and families' ideas.
The following is a list of goals for ACP children, yet each child's development is taken into account: a child who is just becoming socially active is only beginning the long process of sharing, taking turns and being a good friend.Positive social and emotional interactions are the main focus while academic endeavors are used to enhance the overall experience.

The families who are enrolled in the Coop are the owners of our school. The ACP is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, run entirely by members of the organization. Families are directly involved in educating, managing and raising funds for our preschool. Our child-centered philosophy means that curriculum ideas emerge from the children's interests and lifestyles.
In 1970 a small group of parents came together to explore the possibility of creating a preschool. From these beginnings the cooperative model was adopted and is still in effect today. There is always a minimum of one teacher for every ten children. We have 2-3 staff onsite, daily. With parent volunteers in the classroom there are anywhere from 3-4 adults per 20 children.
We're a grateful Alumni family of Anchorage Cooperative Preschool. My husband and his brother attended ACP in the 70's with fantastic teacher Sally! ACP has been wonderful for my son Diego. At the beginning of the term, Diego was shy and needed a long warm-up period before interacting with others. By the middle of the year Diego had blossomed into a social, outgoing and extremely talkative child.

My son has had a great experience at this school. I love the cooperative model and the parents that want to be actively involved in the development of their children. The play based teaching style is very appealing and progressive. Another bonus is they teach the children to be more independent, for example dressing themselves in winter gear, cleaning up their place after snack or lunch and putting away their toys. I also love that my son plays outside in a wooded play area every day twice a day. These little guys need to let that energy out, not just stay inside all day. Also, I heard some of

My daughter has attended here for 2 years. This school has an amazing play based learning style. My child has become more independent and loves telling me about new art and learning projects they focus on. Every month the school gets redecorated with a new theme. The coop park makes the children more like cousins than classmates. Highly recommend this program if you’re in the Rogers park/university area, or if you just pass by on your way to work.

My daughter really loves going to ACP! On the days she isn't scheduled to go, she "plays" going to preschool. :) The teacher, Miss Eva, has a wonderful, gentle way with the children, and the other parents are great to work with. I'm definitely coming back in the fall!
ACP has programs like Date Night for the families and has a Summer Park and Play group. It's a great environment for everybody!
