Robert Lawrence, MD
Dr. Robert Lawrence MD has been in the private practice of psychiatry--that is, biological psychiatry--in Fort Collins since 1976. Asked why he specializes in "biological psychiatry, " his answer was brief: "I like good results." After an initial meeting, Dr. Lawrence typically telephones new patients once or twice to make sure they are on the right track.

He is tenacious and will continue to go after a solution until both patient and doctor declare success. He doesn't like to settle for mediocre results, and he doesn't want his patient to settle either. Dr. Lawrence is creative; he doesn't hesitate to take a different path or use unusual approaches as long as they are safe and they work.
Services
Although a family member or friend will sometimes be the first person to contact us with initial inquiries, no firm appointment is made until the prospective patient calls to personally confirm the wish for psychiatric evaluation and/or treatment. We understand, of course, that this unfortunately will exclude certain persons.
The practice of Robert Lawrence MD in Fort Collins, CO accepts Medicare patients, but not Medicaid. The following represents our usual fee-schedule. Occasionally, due to the time required and the complexity of the case, the charge may be higher or lower than shown. If you have any questions about the fees, insurance plans or psychiatric treatment, please call us to speak to our friendly staff for details.

About 10 or so years ago back, I started going to this guy when I had a complete mental health break. He barely saw me (once a year) with my bipolar and panic disorder, and when one year my panic disorder was so bad I couldn't leave the house, he fired me as a patient because I didn't come in for an appointment and called me overall a bad patient.
I write this now because my new doctor is night and day. Though stable for years, my panic disorder has recently made me have really bad aversions like 10 years ago. Instead of saying it was my fault, my doctor has called me to check in, works around

Felt compelled to leave a review after reading all the negative reviews left for Dr. Lawrence because my experience with him has been the polar opposite. Granted I've only just begun seeing him, but the difference he's made in my life in the past two weeks is nothing short of a miracle.
After having been officially diagnosed with ADD as an adult after years of struggling academically, professionally, and personally, in addition to having been diagnosed with Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) as an adolescent, he was empathetic and understanding to my needs and situation. This guy should have to go back to school for updated learning.
Ended up hospitalized lost a semester of school high stress, anxiety, and ptsd now from involuntary hospitalization. These types of doctors do not care about recovery or a patients circumstance he's there to help himself whether that be collecting money or protecting himself from what he thinks is a liability patient. For not getting my lexapro on time at the doctor and missing a few days I was taken off my meds with no warning leading to serotonin depletion and my brain unable to produce it itself for a few years. Brain zaps

After 20 years of chronic sleep issues, and visiting countless main stream and alternative practitioners, Dr. Lawrence got me sleeping through the night after just the first appointment. He knows his stuff!

This doctor was so helpful and friendly and knowledgeable that I highly recommend him to everyone! It's so rare to find people who show so much care for the welfare of others...

Office smells of old cigars and cat pee. He loves to make fun of you... jokingly... and he can't remember anything from visit to visit, not even my name. He won't refill prescriptions if they aren't the exact brand that he wants (and seems to get kick backs for), so I've been without 2 of my prescriptions for months because the pharmacy can't get the brand in that he wants and he refuses generics. Sometimes visits are $60, sometimes they are $240... for the same time and same content. Tries to charge his patients for paperwork related to insurance for prescriptions

Horrible, horrible experience.
Took me off meds for not following 100% what he was saying. Ended up hospitalized from withdrawals of prescriptions. Left me high and dry 10x worse off. Terrible listener who lacks compassion. Theres a reason theres poor reviews.

Nearly killed me with his methods; wrote this weird insulting letter to me for no reason; not very bright and very old should retire. Lucky we did not file a lawsuit against him.

I am a TBI survivor and this Doctor saved me. He got me off many debilitating drugs that made my life miserable. Then he helped me sleep after years of not sleeping. Thank you Dr. Lawrence.

Sorry to say that he seemed to leave my brother much worse off than when he began seeing him. Not a great listener, and prescribed what seemed to be many, many drugs without a comprehensive plan for what to go off of, what to stay on, what might react with other drugs... He seemed very confident but not a great listener. I assume he's well qualified but my brother is in bad shape and was told by Lawrence's nurse, "He can't do anything more for you, good luck." Seems like there might be a pattern here.

Great guy, great doctor. He is very dedicated to finding the best solution to patient's issues. He also stays up-to-the-minute on research in the fields of sleep and development of new medications, both of which I have found to be invaluable as a patient.

Very rude. Only tries to push expensive drugs. Constantly threatened to fire me as a patient as a means to coerce me into something.

Sent my daughter to him for a year. When she started needing more help he fired her as a patient only giving her 30 days to find a new Dr. She was in crisis and he was so rude to us. He only wants the cash!
