Max Poorman, founder of Poormans Heating & Air, started a tradition of hard work and excellence decades ago that still rings true today. Max spent his formative years in Illinois before his family moved to Berne, Indiana in 1941. Soon after he met a young lady named Mabel, who he would eventually ask to be his wife.
After a short stint at the Studebaker Company in Fort Wayne and later at Wayne Home Equipment, Max was offered a job at Superior Fuel Company in 1948. During this time, a large shift from coal furnaces and boilers to automatic oil furnaces occurred. Max kept busy converting schools, factories, churches and hospitals from coal to oil for the next 10 years.

I contacted Poorman's to see if they had a part for my 27 year old furnace. They said they would get back to me soon and let me know, which they did. I made an appointment with them to stop by and pick up the part. The people at Poormans were friendly, courteous, knowledgeable and helpful. Very good first impression. I would definitely recommend Poormans to anyone.

The repairman was quick to check the furnace and found the problem. He replaced a part, cleaned the interior, he told me about a maintenance plan that gave me a discount. The discount included maintenance service for the air conditioner in the spring.

Poorman’s Heating and Air has worked diligently to solve the heating and cooling needs of our church working with us and our budget. Recently techs Mitch and John hit it out of the park removing an old gigantic air handler and furnace installing new furnaces, duct work and vents through a small opening in the ceiling. Great job! Professional, knowledgeable, and pleasant. Thanks to Mike Miller for all of his solutions and suggestions with the myriad of problems associated with older HVAC systems.

This was excellent service! I can not recommend Poorman’s enough. Very thorough, very professional. From the start to the finish it was an excellent experience. So glad I called and so glad you guys came to North Manchester IN . Had them convert my electric furnace to LP and changed my AC unit. they were very professional and really nice guys took the old units which was a plus cleaned up after them selves also. Even the salesman was good and I don't like salesman lol. defiantly worth calling. I give them 5 **** Thank you
