Ray's Green Hills Super Market
In the early 1950's two brothers had a vision. Jimmy and Kenny Johnson wanted to build a supermarket that would offer quality, service, and value to the people of St. Joseph. The first store was built on 22nd Street in St. Joseph, and it was given the name Green Hills. After a period of time additional stores were built in St.

Joseph and the surrounding area. In 1970 the two brothers sold their stores to Fleming Company, a grocery wholesaler, at that time. The Green Hills stores were owned by Fleming until 1977. Ray Heitman and Alan Pickard, two local young men, worked as store managers for the Fleming Company in 1977. While serving as store managers, Fleming decided to sell the stores.

Always friendly courteous service. Yet, called in reference to gas pumps not functioning properly. Didn't get satisfactory response on one occasion.

Great locally owned grocery store. Stock is okay. Came to make a casserole, came out happy and with more money than I would've spent elsewhere. Great place to shop. Recommended. Docked 1 star off due to the weird hill the store's parking lot sits on.

Have really reasonable prices on deals for the most parts every week there's items we enjoy on sale. Love how they have a dollar section with many varieties from food to cleaning supplies to dishes, bath and body, and medicine, beauty, home essentials, toys, disposable dishes and pans, foils, trash bags, storage bags and containers, toiletries. Misc. Just wish they stayed open later. With Covid and most businesses closing early. The night workers who sleep during these places open hrs miss out on shopping, bill pay, needing food, essentials. Ect. Time is everything. Some just don't have it.

Worked here close to 9 months before i moved back to Texas, the workers and managers are some of the coolest and kindest people I've had the pleasure to meet.

I usually go to Green hills and buy my meat but here lately it seems as though the meat is not very good it is usually a tough piece or the hamburger I have bought lately has a lot of fat in it when I make hamburger patties out of it it shrinks up a lot when cooked.

I like Green Hills at Belt & Karnes but I think it's time that they update their store. The checkouts look very dated and more room is needed up there at the front. It would also be nice if there were some self-checkouts as well. Other than that the people there are always nice and friendly and the service is great!

I stopped by to pick up a couple of items. I am pushing my cart to a cashier, she looks at me and rolls her eyes, acts passed pushes the cart off. I dont need that kind of attitude so I went to another cashier and I won't be back. This used to be my favorite store when the cashiers were friendly and the slackers were nice. I'll give Price Chopper my business from now on. im sure they wouldn't have cashiers that acted like that!

I love the southend store ! Great quality of meat and good prices all around. Sales are awesome . I have a Relative from out of town when she comes she shops here . She says we’re lucky to have a store like… this and sales. Customer service is great. Only thing I could fault them on is keeping things in stock that are on the sale .

I went to Greenhills this morning early. The items on the sales ad were not available in the majority of things. Aisles were blocked with items waiting to get put out. The cashier did not know how to do the digital coupons correctly and so did not get credited for some things. A bagger was a condecending a** h***. I have always liked Greenhills… before now. They used to have friendly, knowlegable employees but now they are inept and rude. It was a jumbled mess in the whole store and the cut meat looked horrible!!! This used to be my go to store, not now.

We've had Ray's Green Hills on the north Belt cater a few events over the past few years. Not only do they offer a fair and competitive price, but their staff is courteous, helpful, and thorough to ensure that… we have everything we could possibly need for our event. The deli meat was cut just right to maintain freshness and flavor. The fried chicken wasn't greasy or dry and had good flavor. If the potato casserole was named after a movie, the title would be "Gone in 60 Seconds". It's that good. I am very happy and we received several compliments.
