Thank you for visiting the Web site for the Kansas City Meditation Group. We are affiliated with Self-Realization Fellowship, a worldwide nonprofit organization with international headquarters in Los Angeles, California. Self-Realization Fellowship was founded in 1920 by Paramahansa Yogananda, who is widely revered as one of the preeminent spiritual figures of our time.
Through his writings, including his bestselling book Autobiography of a Yogi, Paramahansa Yogananda has introduced truth-seekers all over the world to India's age-old philosophy of Yoga and its time-honored tradition of meditation.

It was on this trip that he met James J. Lynn who became one of his most advanced disciples. In 1951 Yogananda bestowed on him the monastic title of Rajarsi Janakananda (after the spiritually illustrious King Janaka of ancient India) and turned over to him the responsibility of guiding the SRF-YSS work.
We welcome your interest in serving at our Meditation Group. The Kansas City Meditation Group of SRF is completely self-supporting and operated entirely by volunteers. All offerings of time and enthusiasm are most welcome. Volunteer tasks range from taking a few minutes to a few hours, and you are welcome to serve infrequently or to volunteer monthly or more.
Donations may be made to our General Fund which covers regular operating expenses of the group, or may be made to our Firm Foundation Fund which is an initiative to pay off our mortgage, replace our parking lot and build a new altar. For those who shop at amazon.com, a portion of your purchase can support KCMG at AmazonSmile.
The Divine, having infinite capacity for doing good in His own creation, expects His children, made in His own Image, to do more than they think they can do. Think, after a few years how many will walk and work in Kansas City and Los Angeles and India after Lynn and Yogananda are gone.*
Inspired by the divine example of Rajarsi Janakananda (James J. Lynn), who helped Master establish SRF through both his financial support and his ideal life, the Kansas City Meditation Group has established the Firm Foundation Fund to support three projects: the mortgage payoff, the permanent altar, and the parking lot replacement.

Not what you might expect. Sometimes feels lifeless, low energy and cold but also a serene, silent space perfect for inner contemplation and meditation. Friendly people but not aggressively friendly so that's nice when you don't feel like being social. There's a little honor system book shop available before and after service and a reading library. Good overall spiritual focus. No preaching personal attitudes, only reading straight from sacred texts, verbatim. No subjective interpretations offered. This is a small environment.
