Circuit Playhouse
Circuit Playhouse, Inc. which includes Playhouse on the Square, The Circuit Playhouse, and TheatreWorks@TheSquare is Memphis' largest professional theatre company and is celebrating over 50 years of bringing live theatre to the Mid South. Founded by Jackie Nichols, Playhouse on the Square began as a nomadic theatre troupe in the city known as The Circuit Players.

In 1969, the troupe incorporated and soon found home in Midtown Memphis. Many buildings have claimed home to the theatre over the years. But for the past 30 years, the theatre has been rooted at the corner of South Cooper Street and Union Avenue.

Cozy little theater. They are all set for keeping guests at a safe distance so this is a great option for seeing a performance if you have any health concerns. We saw Little Shop of Horrors, great show. The seating area is on the small side so there are no bad seats. Will be back next time we are in town.

Smaller theater, made the performance feel more personal. The cast was absolutely wonderful.
Hurrah for live theater coming back after the pandemic has wrecked a massive toll on the planet.

Saw Days of Rage here when I first moved to Memphis. Everything about this place exceeded my expectations. Great cast, really nice owner. They took Covid really seriously so I felt very safe. Definitely will be coming back!

We've now seen 4 shows at Playhouse--for which we had to travel several hours. It was more than worth it. The most recent show, The Book of Will, was exquisitely moving, even for one who has only a passing familiarity with Shakespeare and his contemporaries. It was just beautiful. Even now, days later, it is in my mind and heart. I am heartbroken that its run has been cut short. Thank you, cast and crew, for such a stunning experience.

Small theater which is more intimate and every seat is closer to the stage than in a bigger theater! Seats are not crazy expensive and there is ample parking.
