The Family Caregiver Alliance, a national center on caregiving, estimates that 44 million Americans, age 18 and older, provide unpaid assistance and support to elderly and/or disabled adults. Many people are unprepared to take on the sudden role of caregiver for loved ones and it is easy to become overwhelmed by the time and effort required in daily caregiving.

We also had a bad experience with The Caregiver Foundation. They did nothing for my elderly relatives but charged us for every minute of any and every contact, even a phone call to their office to ask for a bill after a couple of months of "services". At the time we terminated them, they said we owed over $3000 dollars. I asked for an itemized accounting and that's when it became clear that being on hold or talking to a receptionist cost about $60/hour.
