Horizon High School

Horizon High School aims to support teens in recovery by providing holistic hands-on services. Counseling services encompass an onsite AODA counselor, a staff member who is actively in recovery and additional therapeutic services contracted through Connections Counseling. At Horizon, students participate in their recovery daily through both traditional and nontraditional groups as they learn who they are and how to control their addiction.

Horizon High School is a recovery high school. It is a private, not-for-profit, student-centered, high school, dedicated to helping students succeed in an educational environment fostering emotional, social and academic growth. These students recovering from alcohol- and/or drug-abuse and require a smaller, intimate learning environment.

After college, I moved to Chicago and taught at 3 area High Schools. Later, I moved back to Madison and taught in elementary, middle and high schools in the Madison Metropolitan School District. Then at UW- Madison, I taught and supervised student teachers n in the Rehabilitation & Psychology program.

I have a long-standing interest in adolescent treatment and recovery. I have been involved in research on recovery schools since 1993 and hope to be able to help apply some of what I have learned by working with Horizon High School. I really believe in the mission and goals of Horizon High School. CJ's issues began in high school.
