John Butterfield founded New Urban Dance Company (NUDC) in 1989. As a regional company, the mission of NUDC was the development of new and original dance/theatre works, created for and performed by people in our community. NUDC performed and produced for 14 years with a roster of 12 to 14 dancers.
The Mission of B8 Theatre Company is to provide audiences a fresh take on established plays, and foster the creation and production of new works. Dedicated supporters of the Performing Arts volunteer their time and talents to provide support and direction for B8. Our Artistic Staff is dedicated to providing a unique theatrical experience for the Bay Area.
Our Vision is to present audiences with new interpretations of established works, and to pioneer new theatrical creations. Our productions aim to take an intersectional look at the works we explore - examining perceptions of gender, race, class, age, sexual orientation, and abilities within the framework of the play and the larger context of society as a whole.
As the U.S. enters World War I a group of radical suffragists fight to win the right to vote. A diverse group of women struggle with managing personal and political challenges in creating social change. Period protest music weaves through the play dramatizing the suffragist's political strategies. Turn right on Amador Ave, and make first right.
An all-female cast commands B8 Theatre's production of David Mamet's Pulitzer Prize winning play examining the timeless tale of moral corrosion amidst a world of greed, competition, and unbridled ambition. Since I started studying acting in 2000, I've always wanted to play male roles - they tend to be more proactive as characters and are more often the drivers of a play's actions.

This was a fun atmosphere, a bit lacking on comfortable seating but tolerable for the time spent there. I am very supportive of performing arts in our Concord community and was very happy to have found this little theater of the arts. We did enjoy the performance!

A Doll's House was fantastic and well worth the trip from SF. Miia Ashley, as the lead, was flawless and the entire cast was dynamite. From the very beginning, we were enthralled. We were riveted to our seats until the very end. Highly recommend!

I just saw Tartuffe last night and it was a fabulous production! So fun and silly and witty - and I'm incredibly impressed by all the dialog and physical comedy. I was happy to see friends in the audience, too. Can't wait to get tickets for next season!

The theatre is good for a black box theatre. That being said it's definitely a black box theatre.
Disclaimer: I have only attended Dragon Viper Cobra shows there and not shows produced by B8

Live theater in downtown concord, grab dinner, grab a drink and enjoy some great plays live. Easy to find off of Grant street right between BART and Todos Santos Plaza. Productions have a great acting and the company is committed to both well known shows and new creative works and they are very community minded. Be Curious -- Be Brave -- B8

How about dinner and a show?
Have you considered downtown Concord?
This theatre offers a thought- provoking and entertaining opportunity to see live theater in Concord - the only opportunity in fact. I've see several shows here and each one has engaged me in different ways. There is just something you will never get from a movie that you can get with these live performances.
This unusual location, set in an old bank building, offers an intimate setting where you can enrich your mind with theatre, see (and possibly own) original intriguing visual art produced by local artists, and - BONUS

Went to a Mark Twain reading last night - so good. It was 'Extracts from Adam's Diary and from Eve's Diary'. There were twenty readers 10 women and 10 men - and it was magnificent! The story was hilarious and having different voices read Eve and Adam was brilliant.

We saw the opening night of Butterfield 8's production of Salome. The acting, dance-like movements of the chorus, the use of beautiful leather half masks to represent the different religious sects, and the use of projections to enhance Salome's "dance of the seven veils", added up to a wonderful night of theatre. Seeing Salome as a petulant adolescent princess, made complete sense to the story.

We have enjoyed many of Butterfield 8's other shows as well, they do a great job with Shakespeare and specialize in classics. The Cue theatre where they perform is very
