Hi, I am Matt and I am the owner and wood crafter at Sawed Off Woodworks and I had been building homes for more than 4 years (every Saturday) with Habitat For Humanity and really enjoyed working with wood and making things. I made things for my kids like a baby gate for the stairs, a changing table, a table and chairs for them and a ton of other things around the house.
It was a fun hobby. One day I thought I would make a really nice cutting board out of some walnut and purpleheat and put the A&M logo on it. My two year old twin boys even helped me glue the boards together (and they got some of the glue where it actually belonged.) When it was finished, I started showing my friends and former classmates.

Natural wooden cutting boards have been used by chefs for over 100 years and can last for decades if properly cared for and maintained. There is lots of information on the web about the safety of wooden vs. plastic cutting boards. As a benefit to you, we wanted to share that information with you on our page, but we are not liable for any food contamination that might occur with the use of our products.
Another benefit of owning a good quality hardwood cutting board is that it can be refinished and it's easier than you might think. And, when you are finished it will be like new again. As you cut on a wooden cutting board you will start to get small knife marks in them. They are harmless little scratches in reality, but after a few years of use you might decide that you want to remove them.
Wooden boards have been used for over a century and can be safely sanitized. However, plastic cutting boards are easier to sanitize in modern dishwashers and don't require periodic oiling. The USDA does give guidance on how to sanitize both wooden and plastic cutting boards. Some research has even suggested that bacteria can grow more easily in plastic boards than wooden ones if not killed with high heat.
