When drilling a new water well, we need to determine how deep the well needs to be drilled and which aquifer to drill to (when there is an aquifer option). And we will work with you to make those decisions on a case by case basis depending on your location and water needs. But there are a number of other options that you may not have considered.
A Standard Pressure Water Well System (sometimes called a Basic Water Well System) with a large pressure tank that delivers water with a 20 psi range. This might be used for a small house in the country. A Constant Pressure Water Well System with a variable frequency drive (VFD) controller and a small pressure tank that delivers water with a 5 psi range.
The basic (Standard Pressure) residential water well system (with a steel sleeve wellhead) looks like the diagram below. The submersible pump pushes water up through the drop pipe to the surface. The check valve keeps water from flowing back into the well. The pressure switch turns the pump on when the pressure drops and off when the pressure builds up.
As flow demand changes, the motor speed changes to maintain a constant pressure. Standard systems vary the pressure by 20 psi while this system allows a variance of only 2 psi. There are different models of controllers for each type of pump. In some cases, the constant pressure system is less expensive than the standard system.

I would highly recommend Bee Cave Drilling. They drilled a well for us recently and just did a great job. We ran into some issues and they stayed on top of it. We were in a time crunch and they stayed after normal hours to make sure the well was completed and functioning as it should. Ross Johnson was great to work with. He was always very responsive and answered all of my dumb questions. Great company!
