Eleyne Fitzgerald has a Masters in Psychology and training in working with youth who have social and emotional challenges. A former professional rider, Eleyne established Horses as Healers in 2002 after witnessing the transformation of a troubled student who worked with a horse at an equestrian summer camp.
Horses as Healers is located in Albemarle County, Virginia. We moved to Knole Farm in the summer of 2015. We rent the main barn and share the facility with Knights Gambit Vineyard, a local winery. Our facilities include two barns, a ring, and paddocks for our horses. The Summers Family has owned Knole Farm since 1974, and it began as a Thoroughbred farm.
A Mocha Moment, tenderly was also known as Mocha, allowed children to explore their independence safely. She was a smaller Welsh pony, Mocha was especially suitable for Horses as Healers as she appeared to have seen and done everything. She was a show pony and a 4-H mount before coming to us. We leased her from Jodie Ramie.
My son Erik is severely impaired with autism. Over the years, it has been tough to find activities in which he can participate safely because of his challenging behavior, limited communication skills and struggle to understand instructions. When he senses stress in others, his behavior spirals downwards.
