Services
Boyd Clocks was started in Tampa in 1944 by David Boyd, Sr. Mr. Boyd's reputation as a master clockmaker was respected nationally. He repaired and restored clocks until his passing in 2015 at the age of 86. He is succeeded by his son, David, who is also a master clockmaker and has been working on clocks for almost 40 years.
The clock was acquired at the NAWCC Southeastern Regional event in Lakeland in 2018. It may be described as a "Frieseland Kortstaartklok met Automata", a 30 hour clock made in the Netherlands. The movement is stamped "1819" and this is presumed to be the date of manufacture. The initials "P K" accompany the presumed date and likewise are assumed to be the initials of the maker.
Clocks are the only appliance in the home that runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 52 weeks a year. An eight-day clock in the course of 20 years ticks 630 million times and the springs or weights are wound 1,000 times. Any mechanical device that runs that much is going to need service every three to five years to keep it going.
Brass cases and bases are completely disassembled. The old lacquer is removed. Each part is cleaned, tumbled, polished and re-lacquered with Nikolas Lacquer, one of the finest in the industry. Wood cases are refinished by an experienced cabinetmaker and finisher who specializes in antique restoration.
We make house calls to service Tall Case, Grandfather, Grandmother and other large clocks that are difficult to transport. These are by appointment only. A Local service call is $195. To schedule a house call please call David Boyd at 813-368-7862. A mileage charge will be added to all service calls outside the local area.

We started out with trying in February of 2021 to get my husband's nice grandmother clock repaired . On the ticket it says a couple of weeks. June comes and David is giving us all sorts of excuses but we can pick it up 1st week in July. We had to bring it back in October. I never got a call when Angela says she will tell David to call back . I just picked it up today,,,husband tried to get it to chime and it is worse than when we first brought it. Not only are we out $350.. we have to go out of Tampa to get job done right. This place may have been great in1944 but not anymore.

Had my wife's 1930s era mantle clock serviced. Took a while for the service to complete, but during pandemic, that's acceptable.
Was handed owners business card when I picked up the clock, in case a home services was needed.
Aside from time, service was great! Clock works perfectly, keeping time amazingly!

Had my Cuckoo clock fixed there. There are hardly any places left that fix Cuckoo clocks. They did a great job and even warrant their work. After getting it fixed I didn't get it hung right away (6 months) and one of the chains wasn't working right after hanging it. I took it back there and they fixed it quickly and there was no charge. Great people who seem to able to fix any clock.

David Boyd is The Clock Whisperer. This guy truly knows his stuff. He has helped me with my Seth Thomas Regulator No. 2 on two occasions now. The first time was to replace the cable that the weight hangs from, replace the broken glass on the door of the clock, and to service the clock since it hadn’t been serviced in several decades. He did excellent work and I was very pleased.
The second time was last weekend when he made a house call after I was having an issue where the pendulum would slowly lose momentum and eventually stop swinging (David stands behind his work and didn’t charge me for

David’s shop and the horologists working there are something special. It feels like you a part of a family going in. The show room is full of neat clocks and David never hesitates to share his knowledge on the history of clocks and timekeeping. On top of that, he helps young upcoming horologist learn the trade. This place rocks! You won’t regret stopping by.

Great service from Tom. Thanks for fixing my clock. I really appreciate it your quick and kind service. I'll definitely be coming back. The folks here are genuine, knowledgeable, and generous with both their time and knowledge. I'll surely be thinking of you first whenever I have an issue with a clock and truly hope an opportunity will arise to recommend you to someone I know.

After 32 years, my grandfather clock stopped tick-tocking. I missed hearing it chime so much! So I went online to find someone to repair it. I was impressed with the great reviews for David Boyd, so I gave him a call. He came within the week. I was a little apprehensive about whether I’d be happy with his expertise, but my doubts were immediately dispelled upon meeting him. He is very nice, knowledgeable, and he definitely knows a lot about clocks! He’s been working with clocks under his father’s tutelage since he was a young boy. He fixed my precious grandfather clock right there in my living

Family-owned since 1944 (76 years & counting!), this clock repair business @ the corner of Florida Ave & Fowler Avenue is the place to go!
Services offered are clock repair; clock restoration; grandfather clock service; & cuckoo & antique clock sales.
I am so thankful I visited on the day non-family member Scott was manning the counter. He was an incredibly friendly, helpful, & gracious clocksmith. The showroom is just incredible-- so many gorgeous pieces!
I stopped in after dropping one of my 3 Grandfather clock weights onto my newly-installed floor-- ugh. The floor surprisingly

I have a beautiful grandfather clock that hadn't been serviced in more than 15 years. I was having trouble getting it to keep proper time. Additionally, I had just moved it from Utah. It was beyond time to have it serviced. Mr. Boyd is a very busy man and the best way to reach him is to call during business hours. I had been unsuccessful reaching him by leaving messages. Mr. Boyd made an appointment to make a house call to service my clock. Before I go into the appointment, let me tell you that I had called other places that told me that they would come, remove the head of my clock

This is a great place if you want to store a clock for many months, because that is how long it will take. I still don't have mine back after more than 3 months. This was supposed to be an adjustment of a repair they didn't do right the last time. Numerous calls, messages, and emails went unanswered. I finally called the owners cell phone who assured me he would get back to me within two days, that was two weeks ago. I have another clock that needs repaired. I'll have to find another shop. It's sad to see a shop of such tradition that used to have a good reputation go downhill

David and his team are amazing. They fixed up my old mantle clock and kept me updated when I had questions. Beautiful work! Extremely friendly and a showroom full of history. They even gave me a tour of the facility and some background of the more interesting clocks. Great people, great work, good pricing. Highly recommended.

Boyd's Clocks is a Tampa institution. This family has repaired and restored clocks for three generations.
I brought in my antique cuckoo clock that is in pieces after falling off the wall. It sat in my garage in a box for almost 10 years. I thought it was a total loss until I brought it to Boyd's. They said "No problem. We can fix it". It will take a couple months due to so many clocks waiting to be worked on. Can't wait to get it home and hear that old familiar cuckoo sound again

I went to Boyd Clocks with an old cuckoo clock (about 20 years old) from my parents' house that was originally purchased in Germany. The clock was not functional as the batteries had corroded the movement. After bringing in the clock to Boyd Clocks, I was told that the clock would need a new movement because of the damage from the corrosion. My one request was that the original bird be kept as it was a colorful and bigger bird than what is in newer clocks. I was told that it would be tricky, but that they would try and maintain the original bird.
I was also told it would be several months

I bought an old cuckoo clock at an antique store and the tag said "works like new!" When in reality it needed so much work. Heartbroken, I searched for a place that could repair my one of a kind cuckoo clock. Boyd Clocks is the perfect place. David helped me first and was so informative and even cut me a great deal to repair my clock. They were all caring and so compassionate towards helping me fix it. It needed new parts and it took 3 weeks to repair. Keep in Mind that they don't rush their work and they will be needing some time. It's worth the wait! Sadly I never got to meet Michael, the person
