I'll preface by saying that I left Dhamma Sukha 4 days into a 10 day retreat. I left of my own accord. I donated afterward with hopes someone more compatible with Bhante V's teachings would benefit. The method is solid (TWIM), the sangha was worrying.
Bill Hamilton, one of the godfathers of western Buddhist practice (alongside Ram Das), remarks on the difference between saints and psychopaths (in his book published of the same name):
SAY MEAN DO
Saints will say what they mean and will do what they say. Psychopaths will mean something other than what they say and what they do may have little

I have been actively practicing concentration and insight for 2.5 years in the Theravada tradition under the guidance of an IMS teacher who attended a dhamma Sukha on line retreat a year ago and suggested I attend an in person retreat. I, like my teacher, both had a transformative experience. My practice is permanently changed for the better. Dhamma Sukha led by Bhante Vimalaramsi provides authentic Buddhist practice. Just as it was 2,500 years ago. The daily
Dhamma talks covered the relevant Suttas and in 10 days, following the instructions directly, progression through the jhana’s will seem

It is unethical to kick out meditators who fail to progress with your system despite meditating for 12+ hours per day. Especially after taking their phones on day one at a remote retreat center.
“The system doesn’t work for just one person, it works for every person. Every mind is the same.” It certainly helps believe that when you ignore two meditators leaving on my retreat alone because it didn’t work for them, one voluntarily and one involuntarily. There is no room for questions, help, or customization. And I learned on my way out that being kicked out is not a rare event. I was kicked

This was the best decision I ever made. I had tried breath meditation but really did not get far. I started at home with the book, Path to Nibbana and experienced the first four jhanas. I decided I needed to go to a physical retreat. The place was wonderful. The people were extremely helpful. The food was delicious, and the meditation was spectacular. Having been there I exceeded my expectations. While I won't state my attainment, it was well worth the time. In fact, I'm going back again.

I had recently completed a ten-day retreat at Dhamma Sukha Meditation Center. Dhamma Sukha is located in the Missouri Ozarks about 2 hours from St Louis. My airport pick up was arranged in advance with Dhamma Sukha. Seven to fourteen-day retreats are offered from May to October.
I was there in May 2021. The center was surrounded by the forest. There were streams and brooks that ran through the grounds. There was a sense of serenity to the center. The group was small (I think retreats are limited to 15 people?).
My small cabin was single-occupancy, rustic, well insulated, clean, and comfortable

I spent an inredible 10 days at DSMC and could not recommend it more. The staff were very accepting and kind, the food was incredible, the sleeping arrangements comfortable and Bhante Vimalaramsi was such and incredible person to meet.
The teaching at this center teaches you to be loving and kind to yourself and others which creates a very open and welcoming environment.
The price is unreasonably low for the experience.
Could not recommend more.

I have attended multiple week or longer retreats at Dhamma Sukha. This place really understands what meditation is, and what the Buddha taught. Comfortable, modern lodging and facilities. Highly recommended!

My experience with Meditation, originally with Vipassana, began shortly before I first met Bhante Vimalaramsi when we and a few others began practicing meditation on retreats together in the 1970s. Before he was Bhante. It is a long arc and in these years he has become one of the wisest of men and a brilliant teacher, and I can say he has always been one of the kindest human beings I have ever met. In these recent years I have reconnected with Bhante and practicing TWIM with the 6 Rs my meditation practice has improved dramatically. It is hard to adequately explain the quality of effort I am learning

Beyond My Wildest Dreams: This is how I always imagined meditation should be taught and practiced. I did intense vipassana for more than 30 years taught by many famous teachers in the USA. Once I did TWIM, I experienced awesome results 10 day day retreat just as the Buddha describes in the original suttas. These guys guided me with kindness and clarity.
Dhamma Sukha is remote but lovely in the warm months. The center is serves up to 15 with expansive gardens and walking trails. The facilities are new and modern. The food is mid Western style with gluten-free and meat options daily. Coffee and

Bhante has an incredible ability to explain often difficult to understand mediation principles into clear instructions. I went on a 10-day retreat and made more progress than I could have imagined. Very grateful I was able to attend and would definitely go on another retreat. For anyone thinking about attending a retreat, the grounds are beautiful and the bathrooms remodeled.
