After serving in WWII, Frank & Ralph Wilson began optical careers producing lenses in a downtown Jacksonville lab. The brothers found they loved the work. They became among the first opticians licensed by the State of Florida and launched Wilson & Wilson Opticians in 1957. Still operating today, Wilson Optical is the oldest optical company in NE Florida and one of the oldest in the nation.
Growing up in the family business, he got his start in the lab just like his father Frank Wilson, the company's co-founder. He is a graduate of Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN where he was a member of the Omega Delta optometric fraternity. He was also active in the American Optometric Student Association and the Contact Lens Society.
Complete Eye Health Exams include a complete external and internal evaluation to ensure there are no eye diseases or conditions (such as cataracts). Our comprehensive exam also includes testing for glaucoma, a refractive check for a spectacle prescription and many other tests if found to be necessary.
For years, Wilson Optical ground spectacle lenses from scratch in their own lab. We continue to mill and mount each lens in-house today. We have partnered with manufacturers who produce the latest, most advanced digital lens surfaces. Our years of hands-on fabrication experience provide us an understanding of lens design well beyond that of most optical companies.
Wilson Optical is proud to be an open access provider for vision insurance. Our practice works with many eyecare plans on an open network basis. While we are not in-network, we provide you with a concierge level of service allowing you the freedom to pick from all the options available in our stores and still use your insurance.

Well respected, knowledgeable, experienced practice. My mom has been coming here for decades, and the doctor helped recognize a hereditary eye condition she has. My eyes are very similar to hers and I was well overdue for an exam so I decided to go to the same place as her.
The dr and staff are very friendly. While I waited another patient came in who I could tell must've been going there for years. I had a bad experience. Optometrist Roger Wilson's refraction prescription was way off (as was revealed by a subsequent refraction from a different MD ophthalmologist in the area.) When I complained that there was something wrong with the glasses that were made using the prescription, Sean the optician failed to request another refraction to check the Rx. Instead he pushed to remake the same Rx in another brand of lens. Their website says they offer several of the top lenses (e.g. Seiko, Zeiss) but when I requested the highly recommended Seiko Superior lenses for my progressive spectacles, Sean
