The David Scott Jordan Collection features masterpieces, the originals of which are found largely in the museums of Europe and the United States, and in important private collections. To capture the artistry of these treasures, every piece of Jordan Classic Furniture is bench made by some of the most talented artisans in Europe and the U.S.

Some of our pieces feature design embellishments that enhance the relevancy of a piece for twenty-first century use - sometimes dramatizing it, but never forsaking its artistic integrity and intrinsic beauty. Construction of our furniture involves not only the finest craftsmen, but also the finest materials, including precious woods exhibiting stellar grain patterns, 24-karat ormolu and 22-karat gilding.

It is topped with a piece of rare Portoro Extra Italian marble. Portoro Extra, deemed most desirable because of its numerous and strong gold colored veins denoted by the word "extra, " has been used on European holy temples and shrines since before Christ. Portoro Extra was mined on an island off of the Italian Riviera, but over the centuries the supply has now been cut down to sea level.
24-karat gold ormolu lion masks and 22-karat gold gilt-gesso on the trim and feet. The Regency period was inspired by Napoleon's invasion of Egypt in 1798 and the artistic culture of that exotic land. Shortly after Napoleon's conquest, that same year Britain defeated Napoleon at the Battle of the Nile.
The carving, balance and grace of these chairs make them timeless masterpieces. Intricately carved and carefully gilded by master craftsmen in Italy, each chair is a treasure. Gold gilding is a painstaking process of applying thin sheets of gold foil or gold leaf to a surface that has been covered with a tacky substance, usually gesso, made from ground gypsum or chalk and mixed with glue.
Our chair replicates an antique Biedermeier chair with origins of Frankfurt, Germany, dated 1830. We chose a very fine Austrian leather to compliment this set, however the chairs can be upholstered in any fabric the decorator specifies. This Biedermeier table is a replica of one made in southern Germany.
It quickly gained favor in well-to-do American households who commissioned and purchased these pieces to be placed in their most prominent rooms. The high boy gave a feel of sophistication and dignity to the entire house. Cabinet makers in Philadelphia and the New England states added such enhancements as ornate shell carvings, broken pediment bonnet tops and flame finials to further grace these beautiful pieces.
