Dr. David Tavel began his optical career in 1940, and after serving his country as a captain in the Air Force during WWII, he then opened his first office in the Claypool Hotel in downtown Indianapolis. His philosophy of providing excellence in eye care as well as offering stylish, yet affordable eye exams & eyewear at convenient locations proved to be a great success.
Today, Dr. Tavel is a family-owned business operating 23 locations across Indiana. When it comes to eyewear, we often pay more attention to our frame choice than our lens selection. Because the lenses are the custom windows through which you will see the world, they deserve your consideration! Not only will your personalized lenses correct and protect your vision, but they can enhance your sight as well.
We understand life happens and that may mean your glasses get broken, scratched, or damaged in some way. Assuming your prescription is still valid, we are able to add additional material updates, coatings, Transitions, and any other lens treatments or options when you order replacement lenses. These upgrades will require additional out of pocket costs.
An on-the-job eye injury can cause lasting vision damage. Even "minor" eye injuries can cause long-term vision problems and suffering. However, 90% of eye injuries can be prevented through the use of proper protective eyewear, according to OSHA. But what good is safety eyewear if your people won't wear it?

I’m convinced these 5 star reviews are paid for. The big, male optometrist, as well as the older lady at the front desk, treated me and my child horribly. I never wish bad on others, but they way they treated us had me absolutely flabbergasted and embarrassed and I hope no good thing in life ever comes to them ever again. There is no reason you should treat a child that way. I am so glad I didn’t give them a dime of my money. DO NOT listen to these fake reviews and DO NOT take your child here!!!

I absolutely love Nick Aumage at Dr. Tavel. This is my regular eye doctor for many reasons but mostly because they are great! I took my 3 year old daughter to have her eyes looked at for the first time, this past week. Dr. Nick did so amazing with making sure she was happy, comfortable and having fun throughout her appointment. We all really enjoyed it and had a few laughs during the appointment. I would definitely recommend my friends and family to go here and we will be visiting again soon. 😁

The staff was super friendly and informational. If you were uncertain about which frames you wanted they can give you advice on which ones fit your face better. And they tell you about any promotions that you'd be eligible for. For example: my appointment was on Sept16 and I have 6mo to go back and use a promotion to get a reduced price on contact lenses exam, and until the end of the month to go back and get a second pair of glasses for a reduced price as well. Definitely would recommend going to Dr. Tavel
