Derby Canyon Natives
These six-foot plus willows needed watering almost every day The unprecedented heat of this summer has been a challenge for plants and people alike. With the days growing shorter, I look forward to. Spring is rejuvenating and reassuring, for both me and the nursery. This is the time of year when birds are quite busy raising their young.

At our nursery there are at least eight species nesting on the grounds this year: house wrens, violet-green and tree swallows, . Shrubby penstemon (Penstemon fruticosus) - I spotted this pink form on a hike five years ago and snapped off a shoot on the way back down. I rooted it and can now propagate more of this lovely shrub.
Services
Derby Canyon Natives, located along the Wenatchee River near Peshastin, WA, is a specialty nursery growing wildflowers, grasses, shrubs and trees native to Central Washington. Since 2002 we have provided container-grown plants produced from seeds and cuttings collected from the region's varied habitats, including shrub-steppe, forest and riparian zones.
There are few deer-proof plants. Many factors influence the extent of feeding by deer; the number of deer in the area, the availability of other food sources, winter weather conditions and plant preferences. Deer may have different tastes depending on the area, and may eat young plants while leaving older ones alone.

Ted and crew know their plants--they can help you pick the right one for your location. They have grasses, flowers, shrubs, and trees grown from local sources. They grow many in long, narrow pots so that the roots go deeper from the moment you put them in.
