Sundog Outfitter, the largest full-service bicycle shop with rentals & shuttle service on the Va Creeper Trail, has been the go to service since 1998. Whether you want to ride the now famous 17 mile downhill ride from Whitetop Station to our front door or continue the ride to historic Abingdon, we can arrange a trip to suit your needs.
Since our first day in 1998 our goal has been to provide quality bicycles and personalized service which we believe are paramount to your Virginia Creeper Trail experience. We have bikes for all types and sizes of people (let us know of your special needs). All of our equipment is routinely serviced and ready to serve you.
The typical shuttle ride will drop you off at Whitetop Station (3576' elevation) and you will downhill 17 miles downhill to Damascus (1952') then on to Alvarado (1900'), half the way between Abingdon and Damascus, then up to Abingdon (2087'). From 2 1/2 to 3 hours depending on how leisurely you want to be about it.
Damascus, Va is certainly the "Town Where Trails Cross." With more than 7 national, regional, and local trails converging in front of our store, Damascus is a trail lovers paradise. One of the few towns that the A.T. traverses through in its 2,400 'ish miles between Georgia and Maine. Damascus is home to the annual Appalachian Trail Days Festival that brings thousands and thousands of trail hikers to town every year.

Great service and great location along the VA creeper trail. Our shuttle driver was very kind and informative. The bikes were in good working condition and we did not experience any mechanical issues on the trail. We were given a cruiser style bike, as were most in our party, although they have a few mountain bikes available as well. The bike had a comfy seat and riding position, but we would have appreciated a front shock for a few of the slightly rougher portions of the trail. The shop was busy but they worked us through quickly. Parking was limited and required a little patience but we were

Had a great day on the VA Creeper Trail ! Sundog Outfitters made it so easy——we rented bikes and helmets, then rode the shuttle to the top. We arrived early for our reservation and they were able to put us on an earlier trip. The employees were friendly and knowledgeable. Everything was super organized and I definitely recommend them.

Awesome staff! We had reservation to bike the VC trail. They drove us and our bikes up to the start point. Making reservation was easy and straight forward. Check in was straight forward, it was great safe ride. The bikes were quite secured for the journey up. The driver gave us, so much info on the area, and the trail. We will be back here for our next visit to Damascus. Give them a try!

Sundog is the place to go for biking the Creeper Trail.
We showed up a half hour ahead of time and they got us set up on bikes 1,2,3. We had some time to browse the store, but then we were off on the shuttle to the top of the trail. While you are in the shuttle with others, mask wearing is strictly enforced. The shuttle driver was wonderful and gave us a bunch of tips on riding the trail and on where to stop.
The trail itself is beautiful, and 90% of the ride is coasting down hill. Plenty of opportunities to stop and take pictures and really enjoy the scenery. The last couple of miles into Damascus
