Established in 1986 by Russ Barnett, a lifelong horse lover and packer, Outfitters Supply began as a small company in Columbia Falls, Montana looking to provide practical solutions for the everyday challenges encountered by trail riders and horse packers. Originally designed to be a retail store catering to locals, Outfitters Supply saw the need to reach people outside of its geographical area.
Outfitters Supply, the makers of the TrailMax brand, has long been the leader in the western saddle bag market. We have always made traditional leather saddle bags, and then started making the TrailMax western saddle bags over 25 years ago because we couldn't find lightweight nylon saddle bags that worked well for both horse and rider.
Our TrailMax English saddle bags are designed to be low profile and contoured to fit most English and competitive endurance trail saddles without bouncing. We make it simple to stay hydrated with easy water bottle access and carry your snacks or an extra layer of clothing on your trail ride. Bits and bridles are the cornerstone of communication between horse and rider. Selecting the right combination is vital for ensuring optimum performance whether you are riding on the trail or in the arena. We are proud to carry products from our own Outfitters Supply shop, as well as top brands such as Berlin Leather, Weaver Leather, Jeremiah Watt, Silvertip, and Stacy Westfall.
We have a wide variety of mule, draft, and horse halters and lead ropes from the best equine manufacturers in the US. When we couldn't find exactly what we wanted, we made it ourselves (such as our TrailMax Mule Halters, TrailMax Packer's Halter, and Packer's Lead Ropes). We have rope halters designed for training, as well as some that are lightweight and made for going under bridles for trail riding.

Great selection, Great customer service. I’ve not been in, but have worked with them a few times over the phone. I had a few questions about their pack saddles and was transferred to a gentleman who was very knowledgeable and experienced and answered all my questions in a very engaging and friendly way. And just yesterday, I spoke with Jaime regarding the price on some saddle bags. She was just great to work with and went out of her way to help get me situated. Can’t recommend this place more for getting set up - even if you can’t make it there in person. Fantastic!

I bought my first set of saddlebags and they were good .So I purchased another set.I am a mostly weekend rider.The newer set ripped out after the 2nd use .I took them to a shop and them sewn up .Minor inconvenience.However after about a dozen more uses the fabric way and the bottom ripped out.I stopped into their store today because I was on vacation in Montana.I explained what had happened and that I was interested in buying another set.I was not given an explanation, apology or offer of a discount. DISSAPOINTING

I had a bad experience with a Professional's Choice saddle pad purchased through Outfitters Supply (like, very bad). I needed a high quality pad for endurance... I chose wrong and ended up with ridiculous vet bills to pay- weird sores on my horse's back, the pain from the rubbing caused him to overcompensate in his movement and he came up lame pretty horribly.. ProfChoice offered no help. Moriah from Outfitters fought on my behalf and got me a refund. She was above and beyond professional and kind the entire time- even comped my return shipping. As soon as my horse (and my bank account) is okay

These guys have a great supply and unique products. I ordered a decker pack system from them. The saddle and everything were great. However, they didn't ship the Latigo straps to connect the saddle to the cinch. I didn't notice this until I got up in the mountains, and we had to jerry-rig the saddle to work. Got back home and contacted them multiple times and still no latigo straps. Bummer.
