Seventy years ago Jeanne Garr bought the Artemus Ward Estate from Harvard University. Sixty Years ago we bought our property on Midway Road. Fifty years ago we moved to Shelter Island with four kids, two dogs, a cat and a boat. Forty years ago I started selling real estate at Jean Garr's office. I am now the oldest living real estate broker on Shelter Island, come see me and I will fill in all the blanks for you, lots to tell and lots to sell!
Ironically when we first arrived on SI, Jack decided to build a spec house. After touring the island everywhere, I mean "everywhere" we decided definitely have to buy a building lot in Shorewood. Of course met up with Jeanne Garr at this office. Yes she would sell us a lot, but not in Shorewood, as she had a waiting list of buyers.

I started working for Franklin Hallock, who worked for Jeanne Garr and then she gave him the office and he started Hallock Real Estate. One day I came into the office and he was "hen pecking".I said I would type his appraisal for him. That was the beginning. A fellow came in with a deposit check for a property Franklin had sold him.
