Stuart's Spices was founded in 1992 by Stuart Schultz in Rochester, New York. At the beginning, he sold pre-packaged spices at the Rochester Public Market. It wasn't long before he began to experiment with making his own blends and shifting from pre-packaged to grinding at his own location. Over time he expanded the business to include a store on Lyell Avenue.
Tom Finnefrock, a grill/barbecue/smoking aficionado, was a devoted customer of Stuart's spice blends and sausage seasonings. Tom found out that Stuart was considering retiring from the business. The timing was great as Tom was looking for a new career, and so he and his wife Vicki acquired the business.

I have received multiple generous gifts from my western New York-based friends over the last several years. Last week I received an amazing assortment of different spice combinations from Stuart's Spices.
They also sent a sample of a rub with the 3 awesome baskets: habanero honey...it's delicious!! I might actually use it as a rub...if there's any left....since I've been sprinkling it in my salads. Mmmmm hmmmm!! Give me some of that hot, salty and sweet goodness to kick things up!!
Can't wait to try the middle eastern varieties in my new Tagine that I'm curing right

Couldn't find star anise at the big you need a loan to shop there store so did a search for spices and Stuarts came up. I'm so glad it did because this is my new go to for rubs and spices. Both owners were there and they are the nicest people. Plenty of conversation and a few free samples to boot. I just used a rub on some mahi mahi and it was amazing. If you live near south wedge (or anywhere else) please support the local businesses. Shop Stuarts

Tom and Vicki really hit it out of the Park. Due to 'Rona I've had to order some herbs and spices and glad to do so. The customer service is excellent and they have all sorts of things. They make spice blends for a lot of local restaurants and yup McCann's too.
Support local! You can order online! Peace Out

OH my gosh, I'm so in heaven. Love this place. I asked if they have pickling spice (didn't think they have it) and they sure do have it. Reasonably priced and they do actually make their own mix and the pickling spice smells so strong and fresh. When asked about cayanne peppers, she asked how hot...they have more than 3 level of heat! Wow. Definitely will go there whenever I need herbs or spices and it is less than one mile from where I live which is perfect. Only problem is the hours....but can understand because it is a Mom's and Pop's store.

Stuart's, I love you.
I love your quirky signs out front, your employees, your products, your seminars, your minimalist displays....just a gem. I should make Stuart's a Valentine since they spice up my life.
First of all, everything is ground in shop. It shows. They aren't handing you $1 Christmas Tree Shop spices that have been sitting on the shelf since...well...last Christmas. I bought the fresh ground no sneeze pepper recently, and use it all the time. No more of those crappy plastic pepper grinders that you crank and can barely see the pepper that comes out. I use it for everything

Awesome spice store. All gluten free. Fresh ground...weeks not months.
They offer herbs, spices, seasoning blends, salts, pepper, sausage mixes, dip mix packets, gin kits, and much more. Many items would make great gifts for a cook or host. They offer classes as well and a newsletter 4-6 times year. Many local restaurants source their spices from Stuart's. I was taken with their corn on the cob spice...great when roasting veggies. Check out their free recipes and recommendations for using different spices.

I started with Stuart's years ago at the public market. We even made a couple of trips when they were located on Lyell Avenue. On one trip Stuart was there, beard and all looking every inch like an Amish gentleman (I don't think he was at all, but he sure pleasantly fit the movie stereotype). Anyhow, he asked if we would like to see some of the equipment he had designed and made. I asked why he would make his own. He said that he was very fussy about how seasonings were ground and sorted and that nothing on the market was good enough for his customers. He had me for life at that point

I am not exactly a cook, so I may have never stumbled across this place without Yelp. You should stop by, especially if you do cook, and maybe even if you don't. It smells so good when you walk in the door!!!
We got to do some demos with the owners. We got to try several yummy things, including an apple pie grilled cheese and mulled apple cider, which were my favorites. We also got to smell a lot of their sample spices. They crush all the spices themselves in the store, so they're really fresh. It's worth a trip in to try some of them.
I also got to try the Beau-licious dip

My husband, and I discovered this establishment yesterday. We were drawn in by the pleasant spice aroma. We met the Vince who patiently explained the various spices, and the love that goes into making them. We were so impressed to know that these spices were not only gluten free, but were made fresh. This place is definitely a winner, and we enjoyed meeting Vince. We will make this our go to place for our spice needs.

Great selection of spices and spice blends here. I found a few items here that I have not been able to locate at other stores in the area. The owners, are very passionate about their business, and love to talk spices. They also hold informational events, such as about making corned beef, sausage making---today was about peppercorns origins and types. I really learned quite a bit, and was impressed by how much differences there are between the varieties.
It's a small store, but packed with goodness. I'm a fan! I usually have to go online to find quality spices, but from now on I&apos

We first became acquainted with Stuart's down at the Public Market and were pleased when they opened this store on South Clinton so we could visit it winter. The owners are super friendly, helpful and always trying to educated and inform. They have a good selection (though not as extensive as Penzy's which we are also fans of...). We really like their Garlic Granules. Our spice rack is full of the blue labeled bottles and we like to support this local business!

This place is Awesome. Everything is fresh and absolutely amazing. If you are local, consider yourself very, very lucky! I live in New Orleans - a culinary capital - and we do not have anything remotely like this place. I regularly place bulk orders with the Finnefrocks and have them ship it down to me. I've been a customer of this spice joint for twenty years, and they always exceeded my expectations.
Barbecue is a pretty big passion of mine (feel free to check out my 'cue reviews), so I use A LOT of Paprika, Chili Powder, Cumin, Cayenne, and other magic spices. When I first started

I and my wife stopped into Stuart's for the first time today. We were on the hunt for some fresh ground peppers and were very pleased with the selection and prices. The owner's wife was an absolute delight as she acquainted us with the selections available and gave us a tour of the recipe samples she had prepared for the day. We will never have to hunt for specialty seasonings again with Stuart's around :)

Very clean and organized store. They have some hard to find items such as pink cure salt, lavender and ghost pepper products. As well as most of the spice shelf staples. There are a few selections that you can tell are exclusive to this store, which they probably make in the back. I enjoy that kind of stuff. Friendly knowledgeable staff and very fair prices.

It is a small Spice store, but it's very conveniently located for me. And it's well organized.
The service was very friendly, and they may have spices not on display, so ask!
I felt the prices were OK for a spice store, and because of the location, it's very easy for me to get there and grab something I need.
