The Council on Naturopathic Medical Education serves the public by accrediting doctoral programs in naturopathic medicine in the U.S. and Canada that meet or exceed our educational standards. The Council's in-depth accreditation process promotes high-quality naturopathic education and training, and safe and effective practice.

CNME is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education to accredit doctoral programs in naturopathic medicine. ND programs educate students in a range of natural modalities as well as in biomedical and clinical sciences, and complete two years of clinical training.

Services
The Council on Naturopathic Medicine (CNME) accredits doctoral programs in naturopathic medicine (ND programs) in the U.S. and Canada that are offered by multipurpose universities and by naturopathic doctor colleges that focus solely on providing naturopathic medical education. These programs emphasize the use of natural modalities-such as nutrition, lifestyle counseling and botanical medicine-in maintaining wellness and treating illness.
Postdoctoral residency programs in naturopathic medicine offer naturopathic doctors opportunities for advanced training in the practice of naturopathic medicine and, in some cases, opportunities to assist in the clinical instruction of ND students. These programs are typically one or two years long, and take place in a variety of settings, including school clinics and private practices.
A number of U.S. states and Canadian provinces currently license/regulate naturopathic doctors, and licensure initiatives are underway in others. Only graduates of CNME-accredited and candidate naturopathic doctoral (ND) programs-who complete a comprehensive, four-year ND program-are qualified for professional licensure.
