Dr Wilcox has been doing reflux and weight loss surgery in the Colorado Springs area since 2001. Having grown up in the area before attending the University of Colorado Medical School and completing his surgical residency in Seattle at the Virginia Mason Medical Center, he returned to the area while serving in the Air Force with duty at Fort Carson and stayed in the area after ending his time in service.
Dr Wilcox has continually improved his practice and adopted advanced minimally invasive techniques including robotic gastric bypass and para-esophageal hernia repair. He and his Nurse Practitioner, Julie Unruh, are a great team both in the operating room and taking care of patients in the clinic setting.

Anti-Reflux surgery has been shown to be the best way to control regurgitation predominant reflux. It is also a great option for patients who wish to avoid lifelong proton pump inhibitor (PPI) therapy and those who have become refractory to PPI treatment. Dr Wilcox is one of the few surgeons trained in the LINX reflux management system placement in the Colorado Springs Area.
We are contracted with Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Cigna, Medicaid, Medicare, Tricare, TriWest, United Healthcare. We are not contracted with Humana or Kaiser Permanente, but may be able to see as out of network provider. If you do not have health insurance, or your insurance plan does not cover weight loss (bariatric) surgery, or if you have a high deductible plan, we have very competitive cash pay options for bariatric surgery cases.

My life changed 2 yrs ago when Dr. Wilcox and his fabulous nurse, Julie, performed my gastric bypass with hiatal hernia repair. I am down 100 lbs and no longer have acid reflux, sleep apnea, pre-diabetes, or high blood pressure. I now lead an active lifestyle thanks to them. I highly recommend Pikes Peak Bariatric!

3 years ago I went to Dr. Wilcox and Nurse Julie for my gastric bypass surgery and I have no regrets! They took amazing care of me and always put my health and needs first. They did an amazing job and I wouldn’t have trusted anyone else but them. They are truly there for you and want the best for you. I’m 5’0ft and started at 185lbs and now i’m 110 lbs! I feel so much healthier and I wouldn’t know where I would be today without Dr. Wilcox and Nurse Julie!
