The story from our founder, Steve Kuker: My grandma Minnie was caring for my grandpa Carl at their home, they were ages 87 and 88. Grandpa had dementia and needed basic oversight and supervision throughout the day. Grandma looked after him and did a great job keeping him safe and well cared for. Unfortunately, one night, grandma had a fall and fractured her neck.
Assisted Living offers minimal to full assistance with bathing, dressing, grooming and other activities of daily living. They distribute medications, offer a full schedule of activities and provide transportation. They prepare all of your meals and you have your own space, usually a small apartment.

Alzheimer's Dementia Care or Memory Care is a special type of care that is offered at the Assisted Living and Nursing Home levels of care. To make things even more complex, memory care is also offered at the Residential Care and Home Plus levels of care. There are codes on the doors to manage elopement risk for residents who are wandering or are exit seeking due to their cognitive impairment.
A Continuing Care Retirement Community or CCRC is a community that has all levels of care including Independent Living, Assisted Living, Long Term Care (nursing home) and Skilled Nursing and Rehab. Many also have Memory Care, but some do not. A CCRC is by far the most complex community to choose because of the many variables involved.
