Uyeda Shoe Store has been a family-owned business for three generations, including the current owner Claire Takashima. With deep roots to our Mo'ili'ili community, Uyeda's remains a reliable resource of comfort footwear for our loyal customers. It all started in 1915 with Claire's grandpa, Saijiro Uyeda, in a small shop on Fort Street.
When my grandfather immigrated, I guess someone told him 'why don't you repair shoes instead of slaving away in the plantation'? So he decided to first open up a shoe repair store, said Takashima. The business took off and in the 1930s it expanded into a shop on North King Street. Claire's father eventually took over the business in the late 1930s and moved it to South King Street.

As a caretaker, I love brooks velcro because it makes it super easy to put on and off my dads elephant feet. I have saved so much time in my life with velcro. Laces are overrated.
As a fashion icon, I rock a pair of OOFOS from here. Probably the softest cushiest slipper I have ever worn in my life.
As a yelper, five stars. Great customer service. Not intimidating. Podiatry Doctor recommended. This location is convenient and next to QQ tea which has pretty good boba.

My wife and I stopped in on Wednesday to pick up some footwear for her. I've had lower back problems for years and decided to grab a pair of OOFOS slippers while I was there. Within minutes of leaving the store, I could stand up straight again! AMAZING! The back pain gets better every day and I've ordered another pair so I have one for inside the house. Thank you Uyeda Store for a life changing experience.

The older gentleman who helped me find the right shoes today was oh-so-kind! He took his time to let me try on several Hoka One One shoes... it's usually a challenge for me to find pair of sneakers that my back agrees with and comfort that's needed for my funky feet. He was not only wonderful, but paid lots of flattering comments He's full of Aloha and highly recommend this shoes store! Top notch service!! I support mom-and-pop shops whenever I can

I exchanged a sandal at Uyeda. The sandals were unworn, new in the box. I like the style, just wanted a different color.
Claire very graciously exchanged them for a different color. She took the time to bring in the sandal I wanted and it took only 2 weeks. I wouldn't always expect it this quickly, I got lucky because she tagged it on to a re-order.
Today I noticed more new styles. I'm sure I'll be back for more to replace so
of my older shoes.
I want to mention that to insure customer safety, Uyeda limits the number of customers allowed in the store at one time to

A small local store that hide inside the corner of a small shopping mall, if wasn't my friend recommended to us, we will never know. Plenty of parking, I think you have to pay during weekday but we went on a Saturday and we don't have to pay. The staffs are friendly and helpful but they lack of sizes on many models of shoes.

Love that the store is prioritizing safety and customer service. You need to sanitize your hands upon entry and wear masks inside the premises.
Once I've settled down, they measured my feet and I'm shocked to learn I'm wearing the wrong shoe size for ages. The staff are also very attentive to your shoe needs and carefully provide you options after hearing your thoughts on what kind of footwear you want. They are all very helpful, friendly and kind.

Best experience! Claire and Richard are very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful in finding the perfect shoes for you, or in my situation, my mother-in-law's birthday gifts! They have cute shoes for any age, for any occasion, as well as all types of socks, and trekking canes too! I already have my eyes on a Mother's Day present for myself!

The staff here is super friendly and knowledgeable! I have planters fasciitis and work a job that requires me to be on my feet for my 10 hour shifts! I looked on the internet to find the best shoes for my condition and where to purchase them. I went in, found the shoes and tried them on.
The staff asked questions and brought out other pairs for me to try. I found the right pair and they adjusted the arch support to make it feel fabulous!

I was born and raised in Hawaii and remember passing Uyeda's back when it was in Ala Moana ground floor. I cared nothing for shoes though out most of my life, thinking them as more a necessary tool, like a toothbrush. No frills, just need it to get the job done. One pair of slippers, one pair of shoes.
As I have gotten older, my preferences changed, and for the past 10 or so years I have basically bought the same pair of shoes, Merrell MOGs. Great shoes. Benefit of buying the same shoe all the time, I can actually buy them online and not have to deal with guessing or returning.

First time shopping at Uyeda Shoe Store. We went there to get our feet measured and fitted properly. I have typically been an Amazon or direct manufacturer on line shoe shopper or visited brick and mortar stores without experienced sales personnel for years and assumed spending over $100 dollars on shoes meant you got a great fitting shoe. Claire (spelling ?) was wonderful and very thorough "disinfecting" us with a misting solution as we entered and made sure we all practiced proper and safe distancing as best possible - even a package we brought in to avoid the heat in the car

COMMITMENT. Second time at the store, this time bringing my mom for shoes. She's got more pairs than Imelda Marcos- nothing fits right for long. Excellent customer service- patient, personal & perfect assortment of sneakers, boots & sandals. Thorough explanation of appropriate sizing, lacing & fit. There's a reason thIs second generation shoe store has been in business for 100+ years. Constant flow of customers, and we didn't feel rushed or slighted.

Not sure what all the hype is about this place. Went to check it out hoping to buy a great shoe. Not even acknowledged when I walked in, one guy was too busy talking story. Not even a courtesy, " I'll be with you in a minute" ...
As I circle the little shop a few times hoping to give the place a chance... Nothing! Guessed they didn't need the business, so I left. Saw a shoe I'd considered buying, but I'll find it elsewhere. Thanks!?

Awesome service. great collection of shoes. i bought some of their new zebra print vinyl converse and a few adidas running shoes and a bunch of jewelry. really well curated. jefffrey d was amazing --- super attentive and was relentless at bringing out more shoes for me to try to push me pass my usual comfort. recommend anthem on haight!

Went here to pick up some hiking shoes but was a little underwhelmed with their shoe selection. They only really had 3 different types to choose from. Not complaining to much since sports authority closed down, but had some high hopes nonetheless. The knowledge of the salesperson was good, just didn't have enough variety for me to pick something.

Last athletic shoes I bought was in 2012; definitely time for a new one. Thought of buying my next pair online at either Amazon or Zappos's, but this time around I wanted to make sure I pick one that fits and would be good for my feet. I wanted to have the ability to try the shoes on to find the right pair; hard to do online.
My wife had bought her shoes here in the past and had great service. Well that part hasn't changed; still great service! The lady that helped was very nice and patient; giving tips as well. I think she was the owner, but the others were just as nice; helping

I've been needing a new pair of SAS for a while, and I need to thank my mother for informing me about its Black Friday special of 20% off everything.
Uyeda is located in the University Square along University Avenue, near King Street. It has its own private lot, which I believe is free with validation, but I'm not sure because I parked on the street.
