We are a family owned restaurant who has been serving the tri state area with the freshest seafood around since 1982. Starting out in Baltimore, Maryland owner Ernest Schuhly had a job at a local seafood shop. He says when he first started he couldn't have told you the difference between a scallop and a shrimp.
After years and years of learning the trade he and his wife Doris decided to take their talents and knowledge and open up their own market and restaurant here in Hagerstown, Maryland. Flash forward to now, almost 40 years later it has become a family affair. With their children helping them run the restaurant and their grandchildren working there you'll always be able to stop in and find one of them there.

Great seafood and prices. Truck shells Rider season so I had to get them when they were frozen. I usually get there hard shell crabs as well but this time they had them all cooked. I like to cook mine my way if I cooked them after they did they tend to sometimes get a little dry. Great crab cakes crab legs I would have gotten some jumbo lump crab meat that was important out-of-this-world outrageously high at $60 a pound. Even the king have crab legs were $52 a pound. Pandemic is shot prices through the roof. Of course we'll go back again especially when Sasha crab season is in effect when typically

Excellent crabs! We stopped by on a Sunday afternoon after reading reviews here. We are from the Baltimore area and are used to quality crabs, and that is exactly what we received.. Hot, well-spiced fairly-heavy crabs steamed while we waited for carryout. Definitely NOT "reheated". Meaty, moist and delicious. Absolutely recommended!

Well, the ambiance was cool , ordered raw oysters on the half shell , and apparently they don't like to wash them before shucking..found myself handling mud and looking at the cute little clams attached to the bottom..bonus I think not..got the Chesapeake platter and they might want to serve on a smaller plate because it sure doesn't look like your getting 31$ Worth of fried seafood, and lastly the crab cakes were off...way way way off..like bad/spoiled even ..I'm a chef and come from a long line of new England Oyster men and fishermen.. nothing was really at all fresh..

Absolutely fantastic, laid-back seafood restaurant in downtown Hagerstown, family-owned and operated for decades. The stuffed flounder is out of this world and you gotta try their homemade cheesecake. Oysters-on-the-half-shell and jumbo shrimp were great too. Beverages (not beer, sadly!) are served in small pitchers - fun little touch. LOVE this place,go out ofy way to dine here. Never disappoints

We dined in person today, and it was great to be back! I had the broiled crab cakes, and they were truly lump crab meat with a light, pleasant seasoning. Nicely done, Chic's! My family also had the sautéed mussels in a garlic and white wine sauce, a simple broiled haddock sandwich, and a shrimp basket. And we started with a tasty bowl of Maryland crab cake soup. The decor is fun-- nautical and nostalgic, and the server was friendly and attentive. They also have clean and updated restrooms, and a takeout counter for buying seafood to cook at home. It was a wonderful and memorable meal,

Drive by Chics Seafood so often. Decided to stop. Quite expensive for lunch - see menu- BUT real authentic seafood, not imitation, so worth the price.
Steak cooked well, too much salt in seasoning but that's my preference.
Hushpuppies are perfectly cooked with crunch on exterior and soft but not soggy interior. They were served in a fish shaped glass plate.
Lobster tail cooked a couple minutes too long. Crab imperial added to top of lobster tail is creamy and tender.
Macaroni salad is on the sweeter side but not undesirably so.
Side salad is chopped romaine lettuce with shredded carrots, diced

I was told they had NO Large over the phone only mediums , i show up and she said "he picked through and pulled large's from the mediums" , the mediums price jumped to $75 for a dozen this year , for MEDIUMS , i figured they better be good , i elected not to pay more than $75 for the "Large" that moments ago were mediums
as soon as i picked the bag up i knew this wasnt good , very lite, keep in mind they claim ALL of their crabs are #1's so thats why they

We live on the coast. Seafood is available dockside and we have a short ride to Calabash for its style of seafood. We moved from outside of Hagerstown and are returning next week for a visit. Where will we go for our first meal? Chics. We agree with some earlier posts. This is a fish market and a seafood shack style restaurant. If you want fresh seafood, this is the place to go. If you want a bushel of crabs, this is also the place to go. We wish Chic's would move to the coast with us.

Fist time and last. For the Maryland crab soup which had no crab meat. The crab imperial, one of the most expensive dishes on the menu, it was salty soupy and watery. I wish I could give no stars but the customer service was awesome. Unfortunately, o told him I'm big on yelp and reviews so I'm sure he was expecting something maybe not as bad but not his fault. Ugh

My chef husband and I really wanted seafood before leaving MD & Chic's popped up on a google search. A little nervous due to the reviews but alas, the bad reviews were unfounded.
1. That "smell" people complained about? It's called seafood people. It's called fried food. It's a delicious smell that reminds me of the fish shacks on the Pacific Ocean. If you don't like that smell; probably shouldn't be eating at a SEAFOOD restaurant.
2. Our food was delivered promptly & everything was fresh and cooked perfectly.

DONT LISTEN TO THE NEGATIVE COMMENTS!!! Yes when you walk in it's like a deli, ITS A SEAFOOD MARKET!!!!! If you don't like the smell of seafood then don't go to a seafood restaurant!
I've been here twice in the past month with no complaints. RAW OYSTERS were delicious (best I've had in this area). Crab topped pretzel is a meal itself, by far the biggest pretzel I've seen. Steak was delicious and cooked properly. Steamed and breaded shrimp were awesome. WAITRESSES WERE ALL SUPER FRIENDLY! WORTH CHECKING OUT!!!

I came for the Maryland steamed crabs and I was not disappointed. I got the smalls and the price was reasonable and the seasoning was just right. My husband got the chicken tenders and they were also very good.
It is not a fancy seafood place. It is more a crab shack that also serves seafood dinners. It was clean and the service was great.

We were on our way from Pennsylvania and decided we'd like some crabs. Searched Google and this place came up. Average rating was four stars and the prices looked super affordable for seafood, so why not? (I still can't understand why ANYONE would give this place four stars, but whatever.)
So the place has a weird set up. The entrance takes you into what looks like a deli, and the restaurant is off that. There's a downward ramp going into the restaurant, and it's SUPER dark in there...I almost fell because I didn't see it. Anyway, the restaurant itself is just a small

We ate at Chic's this past Friday, and I must say I was very impressed! I got the fried oysters, and they were HUGE - they were in a light cornmeal batter and cooked to perfection. One aspect of a seafood place in Maryland in particular is the use of local product, and those were definitely Chesapeake oysters. Along with the oysters I had a double order of the onion rings, as you are allowed to order two sides. Many seafood places try to force coleslaw (which I hate), and I was actually very happy Chic's doesn't do that - the onion rings were also impressive and very nicely prepared

We came here because I wanted good seafood while we were in Maryland. I read the reviews on yelp and people seemed to love it or hate it. So we decided to give it a chance.
It's a quaint little place with tables made from old singer sewing machines and sturdy solid wood tops. The server was nice and attentive without hovering. She was also very sweet to my 6 year old.
I started with cream of crab soup. It had big juicy lumps of crab in it. Then I had the combo #3 with the lobster tail (I added crab imperial), crab legs, steamed shrimp, steamed clams and oysters. I would have traded
