Services
Then known as the Albany Association of the Blind, the organization was housed at 105 Lancaster Street, and began to offer social and workshop activities to its members. These activities generated employment for blind individuals, and the goods produced were sold to help support the growing association.
NABA's vision rehabilitation therapists work in-home and on-site with individuals to develop the skills and techniques that facilitate independent living. Skills taught include household management, financial management, personal care and safe meal preparation. These consumers learn new techniques for ordinary activities ranging from cooking to reading, from telling time to sewing, from using calculators to using washing machines.
Adjusting to and coping with vision loss can be very difficult emotionally. NABA's social workers help individuals to adjust to their vision loss, guiding them to develop coping, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, while reducing stress and anxiety. This encourages the individual's personal growth and complements the vision rehabilitation program.
To address the growing need for computer technology skills, NABA assesses the needs of the individual, and recommends a computer system and software that will allow him or her to continue to utilize technology for work or school. Training is provided on how to use the adaptive software and hardware.
Being able to travel independently and safely is a critical part of dealing with vision loss. This entails the individual knowing where they are and how to get where they need to go. NABA orientation and mobility specialists provide instruction in safe travel skills and ways to establish and maintain orientation.

So very helpful for my mother at no cost!They came to her home with a wonderful assortment of products.She kept most of them but could not use the complex items.(95 yrs old)The representatives were patient and kind to her.NABA is a fantastic organization.I will be needing their services down the road.Lynda
