Basement Woodworks Inc was founded in 2004 and is owned and operated by AWC (NAC/AW) USN Retired, Sean L. Arnold and son Alex Arnold. I started building Military Shadow Boxes and Plaques while I was still on active duty for friends and the Chief's Mess. As I approached retirement, I often asked myself what I was going to do with my life after the Navy?
All cases are handmade to order and usually take 2 - 6 weeks to complete. Any orders needed in less than 2 weeks are considered a rush order and requires a $25 rush fee Plus additional shipping cost. Customer must phone in rush orders. Custom orders require a minimum of 6 weeks. Trophies, Plaques and other items usually ship within 7-10 business days (Monday - Friday).
According to some accounts of Naval history and tradition, when a sailor retires and is departing the ship for the last time, it's considered bad luck for the sailor's shadow to touch land before he/she does. Thus, the sailor's shipmates would construct a sturdy box, hand-crafted of the finest materials, in which to display mementos of the sailor's accomplishments, thereby symbolically creating a "shadow" of the sailor.
Decorate that "I Love Me" wall with large wooden collar device replicas and Breast insignias from Basement Woodworks. Each insignia is created right in our shop by our craftsman in 20", 24", and 30" lengths. All are stained with a cherry stain and finished with a polyurethane clear coat. We have a large selection and it continues to grow.

I ordered 2 engraved 30oz Polar Camel cups for my wife and I. The product was of such superior quality I ordered 2 more for my brother and brother-in-law to commemorate their military service. I made one inquiry on the status of an order and Sean Arnold responded the very next day first thing in the morning. I am so impressed with the quality and service that I plan to order more cups as gifts for veteran family and friends. I cant' recommend this vendor enough!

I ordered a sea chest for my commanding officer's retirement ceremony and it turned out great. They were responsive and helpful through the entire process and worked hard to complete the chest within our limited timeframe. The item shipped across the country and it was packed very well so there were no issues in transit. I'm extremely happy with the quality of work, thanks!
