Miami Beach is a barrier Island located between the Atlantic ocean to our East and Biscayne Bay to our west. With South Beach (SOBE) comprising the southernmost 2.5 square miles (6.5 km2) of Miami Beach, to the north we get into Mid Beach which is comprised with single family homes and condos on the Ocean side for the most part.
The population was 5,146 at the 2000 census. It is separated from the mainland by Biscayne Bay, with which it is connected via the Broad Causeway. On the mainland side, BHI is bordered by the city of North Miami, while to the east it borders the villages of Bal Harbor and Surfside To the south lies the exclusive Indian Creek island.
In recent years, the City of Aventura has adopted several initiatives aimed at reinforcing a strong sense of community. With the building of its first Charter School in 2003, a state of the art Community Recreation Center, Founders Park & Waterways Park Expansion, and the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center, the City continues to grow, progress and build a strong sense of community.
Coconut Grove is one of the oldest continuously-inhabited neighborhoods of Miami. It was first established in 1825 and has remained one of the most popular neighborhoods since. The neighborhood's name has been sometimes spelled "Cocoanut Grove" but the definitive spelling "Coconut Grove" was established when the city was incorporated in 1919.
Sunny Isles Beach, the City of Sun and Sea, is located on a barrier island in the northeast corner of Miami-Dade County, bounded by the Atlantic Ocean on the east and the Intracoastal Waterway on the west. Golden Beach lies to the north, Bal Harbour and Haulover Park are immediately to the south.
