Robin Hochel and Hiro Iwamoto are a husband and wife team who've provided high-quality, relationship-centered veterinary care to the Decatur area for close to 30 years. With a focus on developing long-term bonds with their clients, Robin and Hiro will now be bringing their knowledge, experience, and love closer to home, and closer to you.
Dr. Hiro is an Atlanta native and grew up in Dunwoody. After graduating from Davidson College in North Carolina he moved back to Atlanta and served as the service manager at a bicycle shop, was as a mechanic on an automotive race team, and worked as a software engineer.

The love & passion that Dr. Hiro has for his clients (people + pets) shines through in his interactions. He doesn't rush, takes time to get to you know & your pet, and answer any/all questions. You can tell he loves what he does & he is the best at it. I am so happy to have Dr. Hiro/Briarlake to take care of our furbabies!

This place is the best! They take wonderful care of two of my cats and also my boyfriend's dog. They are gentle with the animals and really take the time to explain any issues with you after examinations. Also, their prices are very reasonable. I will continue taking all my animals here as long as I can.

We love this place! Have only really needed to go for routine checkups and vaccines, but they also helped with finding a medication that helps our 9 year old dog with occasional urine leakage. Very pleased with the service and they seem to have standard rates based on vets we've had in the 3 other states we've lived in.

I have a small dog who deeply mistrusts strangers. Our first visit to Briarlake Animal Hospital was superb! Everyone there was so good with her, giving her time to get get used to them, and taking time with me to make sure I was comfortable too. Dr. Hochel got down on the floor to introduce herself to my dog, allowing her to sniff, etc. Vets usually resort to a muzzle with T, but not these guys. They were able to hold her for a mouth exam, and were even able to clip her nails without a muzzle on! I'm completely impressed, and 100% encourage everyone to take their pets to Briarlake!

We moved to the area around a year ago and were in need of a vet! I called many places, but this place was super friendly on the phone and seemed pretty affordable. Our experience was great. The vet tech was so sweet to my dog and made sure he was comfortable before taking him for his yearly exam and shots. The vet was very sweet and took her time with me, answering all my questions and concerns. We will definitely be returning for all our dogs needs!!

I really value that the staff took time to educate us about caring for our new dog now and as she further acclimates to our family.

Great experience! From the moment you walk in the door you feel welcomed and cared for. The staff and doctors and very professional, but on top of that, very warm and affectionate. They made my cat feel very calm. They spent quite a bit of time examining my cat and were very detailed about the options. Best experience I have had with a vet and I will definitely be back!

My cat had been having issues for months, had been to our regular vet 1/2 dozen times and issues were not resolving, I decided to get a second opinion and give Brairlake a try. Greeted warmly, clean, bright space. The Dr took a TON of time reviewing my cats record, going over options and possible scenarios. Incredibly gentle with my cat and they resolved one issue immediately, and we have a game plan for the other. I felt so relieved after the visit, they will now be my new vet for all my pets. Two thumbs way up!!!!

My dog and I had a fantastic experience at Briarlake Animal Hospital! "Fear Free" vet practice. Only 2 vets in practice (husband and wife) so entire office is very quiet and calm. You and your pet get their utmost attention! Open M-F. No boarding. Easy to get to their office at the Publix shopping center on Shallowford Rd.

I've been looking for a vet since I moved back to Atlanta. For years I had used another vet, and they had been fine but they grew a ton after I moved to Tampa for a few years, and it felt like the quality of care and attention that I received depended on whichever vet was available there.

Oh my god! What a find! I was looking for a vet closer to home, was happy wit my old vet but this was convenient. Dr Robin Hochel and Briarlake Animal Hospital are fantastic. I did not know I needed a new vet until I met this practice. Dr H took her time in examining my Senior dog, she came up with a plan (a combination of traditional medicines and supplements) for many conditions (her arthritis, seizures, Cushings, blindness). She put up with my many questions and did not mind repeating instructions for my overwhelmed mind. She spent well over an hour with us! She conducted a general exam, clipped

So glad I found this vet office I could bring my new cat into. The entire staff were so kind and welcoming, and you can tell everyone here genuinely loves animals and care for them deeply. Dr. Iwamoto spent a lot of time with my cat and explained everything in detail. The building is brand new as well, and is beautiful.

This is the most amazing vet ever! Dr. Hiro was so gentle and caring with my cat. I usually have problems with one of my cats hissing or snapping at people when we go to the vet, but we had zero problems here! He was so calm and even fell asleep on the way home. Everyone in the office truly listened to my concerns and I never felt rushed or like just another number, as I’ve felt at previous larger animal hospitals. I even got to meet Dr. Hiro’s wife, Dr. Hochel, and I can’t recommend the two of them enough!!
