It has grown and flourished until 2010 when the business owners decided to retire, and sell The Great Big Greenhouse! Enter Meadows Farms Nursery, a household word in yet another neck of the woods. Family-owned and operated by Farmer and Betty Meadows, and with son Jay now at the helm, we are celebrating our business' 50th Anniversary.

We opened our doors in 1976, on three acres in the south part of Richmond.

This along with our tremendous foliage selection allows you to dress up the inside of the house as well as your outdoor living space. Unique international imports and charming local crafts are searched out and brought in from all over the world.
The Great Big Greenhouse offers a full line of mulches, soils and planting mixes to start you on the road to success. Our bagged products are easy to transport, can be handled by one person, and easily stored until you need them. Our bulk products offer an economical way to buy the quantity you need to do a large scale job.
Our resident horticultural expert, Doug Hensel, is here to provide expert advice on all of your lawn and garden questions. Answer: Yes, we do carry potato starts. We have five varieties: Russett Burbank, Pontiac Red, Yukon Gold, Russett Banana, and Kennec. We have a free information sheet on how to plant potatoes.

I like the Great Big Greenhouse I have been shopping there for years. I go in there today and they have a political sign in the front door window. I go there for plants and soil sometimes gravel not for politics. It's a free country so you have the right to put up whatever sign you want. But i also have the right to not spend my money there.

Such a cute place! I always find something to take home. I love nurseries and I am quite fond of this one. I have almost 200 plants (and climbing). I have gotten both indoor and outdoor goodies from here. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. Prices are fair. It is well kept. I have a cat that loves to nibble on my plants from time to time and The Great Big Greenhouse is awesome for clearly labeling which plants are pet safe so I can confidently take home plants that won’t send my cat to the vet. They have a wonderful selection of beautiful healthy plants and super friendly staff!

I visited for the first time today upon the recommendation of a colleague. While the plants were beautiful, the abysmal customer service made it such that I will never return.
First, a couple of individuals who appeared to work at the establishment never even acknowledged my presence as I walked around. A simple “hello” or other similar greeting can go a long way.
Second, I’m new to the plant world and the nursery is pretty intimidating. Signage explaining what the various plants were was sorely lacking.
Finally, after walking around for a bit, I asked an employee where I could find/if
