Acme was founded in 1980 by Davis High School English teacher, Dave Burmester, and a group of eager teenagers. The company's first production Bare Stage/Blue Jeans was a simple performance of a series of one-acts on a bare stage. Two years later, the company put on the first Free Comedy in the Park and it has since become an annual tradition.

The very next summer, Acme members began teaching summer drama classes for elementary and junior high school students in which the company members passed on their expertise to younger children. In 2005, with Dave called together the Invisible Council of Elders (ICE) to discuss the company's future.
Services
Acme's guiding educational philosophy is that young people, when given responsibility, will rise to the challenges of operating a theatre company independent of adult assistance. Student leaders are elected to the Acme Council of Executives in order to manage their peers in key areas of theatrical expertise.
The Acme Council of Executives (or ACE) are the elected leaders of the company who specialize and create each aspect of a production. Any current company member can be part of ACE. If you are a company member who would like to join ACE's distinguished ranks, feel free to ask an ACE member for more info.
Let us promote your business by featuring your business in the program of one of our productions!. We greatly appreciate any support given to this theatre company! Acme has deep roots in Davis, and we've formed a strong connection with our community. Acme has over 1,800 Davis-based supporters with a high level of sustained loyalty, and we hope that you too will join the Acme family and help us continue for many seasons to come!
