Located in historic Volcano California, the town that hosted the state's first amateur theatrical company, Volcano Theatre Company (VTC) has been performing live theatrical productions that range from off-beat to famous plays since 1974. Spring and Fall productions are in the 1856 Cobblestone Theatre, the smallest fixed seat theatre in California.

Our two summer plays are held in our larger venue, the Volcano Amphitheater, which is also a delightful pre-performance picnic site under the stars. Our inaugural production in 1974 was Neil Simon's Prisoner of Second Avenue, the first performance of that work by any amateur group in California. From this venturous beginning, we have given audiences over four decades of quality theatrical entertainment.
Services
Friday and Saturday nights doors open at 6:30 p.m. for picnics and a good time with friends prior to the outdoor performance at 8:00p.m., so bring your picnic basket, your favorite beverage, chairs (low back sand chairs on lower tiers, or standard height chairs on upper tiers), and bug spray. Even on hot summer nights, the amphitheatre will get cool, so be sure to bring your jackets and/or blankets!
Our beautiful Indoor Cobblestone Theatre has a maximum seating capacity of 50. Advance tickets are recommended as these shows sell out. Doors open 1/2 hour before show time. It is recommended that you arrive as the doors open so you may select your seat (no reserved seats / open seating).

If a performance on the Cobblestone Stage is cancelled during the first hour and fifteen minutes, you may exchange your ticket stub for another show for the current season, or receive a voucher good through next season.
Volcano Theatre Company is grateful to the nearly 250 individuals and companies who have purchased bricks and stones over the years. The progress made to date to restore this important historical site would not have been possible without you. Maintaining and improving the Cobblestone and Amphitheatre properties is an ongoing adventure.
The town of Volcano was once the largest settlement in Amador County, With a population in the thousands, it boasted three breweries, sixteen hotels, thirty-seven saloons, and a great deal of gold. The town became the site of California's first astronomical observatory, an early law school (in the basement on the site of our amhitheatre), and appropriately, the state's first amateur theatrical company.

Our 1st time to see a local play. The wife and I were invited by season ticket holding friends a couple who go all the time. At first I was' nt sure this small venue could put out a good show. The wife and I had a great time everyone was smiling and laughing ,clapping .it was the final show their Christmas show and they were great. So glad we went they perform again in the spring can't wait to go again.
