While working as the number two man at Winnebago in the late 1960s, the entrepreneurial Reuben Krein experienced his first innovative solution. Reuben developed the process by which a material, later dubbed silk film, was used in conjunction with a machine to speed up production of cushioned seats for the RV industry.
Foam padding was placed in a wire frame which was then covered by the silk film. The film allowed a vacuum to be pulled compressing the foam so the seat cover material could be slid over the foam and frame with minimal effort. Once the vacuum was released, the foam expanded to its normal size and a cushioned seat was ready for installation.
