I'm Judy Noddin, a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Oakland passionate about helping people heal from trauma and anxiety, and thrive through creativity. We are living in a challenging time of great uncertainty and also great possibility for growth, healing, and change. If you are experiencing feelings of overwhelm, anxiety, or depression you are not alone.

Therapy is a place where you can bring all of your stress and fears and be held with compassion and understanding. I offer HIPAA compliant Telehealth video and phone sessions and currently have openings for new clients. You are feeling overwhelmed by the uncertainty of the times we are living through and your usual coping strategies are no longer working or aren't enough.
Services
I named my practice Garden Heart Counseling and Healing Arts because I believe in the healing power of creativity and the natural world. I grew up in Hayward California at a time when Hayward was still relatively rural. I am deeply grateful for the opportunities I had as a child to explore the woods, play in the creeks and run through the grassy fields on my Welsch pony, Mr. Ed.
While most psychotherapy begins with talking and words, the person engaging in the process can soon begin to get in touch with an inner world that is more complex than just verbal language--this internal world may include words, but also imagery, metaphor, memory, symbolism, body sensations and deep emotion.
I work with adults and am trained and experienced in a variety of therapeutic methods. I utilize talk therapy, mindfulness techniques, somatic attachment therapy, internal family systems (IFS), sand tray and expressive arts therapies including: drama therapy, drawing, journaling, poetry, guided imagery, ritual, and movement.
If you have traumatic experiences from the past that remain unhealed, this likely clouds your present experience in a way that makes it difficult for you to see yourself and your choices in life clearly. We come into the world with bodies and minds wired to allow us to connect to others and also to survive in a potentially hostile environment.
If you are either currently in a relationship with a person who abuses substances, or grew up in a home where one or both parents abused substances, you may struggle with a set of unhealthy thought and behavior patterns known as codependency. You may find yourself "guessing at what is normal." This may include being confused about what a healthy relationship looks and feels like.
