Half Shell
It was 1968. The Democratic convention exploded into chaos, Mayor Daley drove the machine, and the Vietnam War raged. The White Album was released, Martin and Bobby were killed, and the youth generation trusted no one over thirty. It was, to say the least, a turbulent time in Chicago and the world.

But on Chicago's north side, a young man named Danny "The Turk" Denizman was working hard to realize his dream of owning his own restaurant. Danny was an engineer, but to make extra money, and to satisfy his restaurant itch, he worked nights at a joint called The Gaslight Club on State Street. He saved enough money and bought a building at 676 W. Diversey.

When I tell you that this is the first place that had me literally moaning while I was eating my food....bro. I'm pescetarian and eat very little meat and am so picky...but Sarah made sure my fish was cooked just right, and Alex made the drinks cold and strong. Their Atlantic Salmon and crab legs were cooked perf... cover it in lemon juice and their garlic butter and it's a spiritual experience. Also, their ✨️FRIES✨️?

I ate here before during the summer, and had no problems other than it was too loud. But last night was different. My friend ordered a plate oysters, and everything was good until they found a live worm on their plate. We called our waiter over, showed them the worm crawling on the plate, but the waiter did absolutely nothing-they just left. When it came time for our bill, we asked why we were still getting charged for our oysters despite everything that happened. We were then mocked and ridiculed saying that it is common for worms to be inside and on oysters upon fishing for them. We tried arguing

Had a fun time visiting this place. Had to wait for table but the food was worth it. My favorite was the crab cake and our king crab. So good!
Went back the second time on weekday! Even better! No queue and no wait.

Decent little seafood bar. The crab legs were huge! That makes you paying $42 a meal worth it. They had other things like po boys but my wife and I went for the crab legs. The service was good. It is CASH ONLY. I wish the meat was seasoned just a little more but it definitely wasn’t bad. When the crab legs came out they were served on top of fries which surprisingly weren’t soggy lol. I would go back.

Ordered the king crab legs and the soft shell crabs. Both were good. Do wish they served so other sides besides fries. Maybe loaded baked potatoes / red potatoes and some veggies options. Crabs n soft shell came on a bed of fries. Would have liked my fries to stay crispy and possibly be on the side. Would have liked real hot butter, not sure what that was that they served. Please note, this place only takes cash and doesn't have a POS system, they write it out by chicken scratch handwriting. Make sure your bill is correct. Our server tried to charge is for an extra king crab leg and a drink. Went

Loud, small and dive-y indoors if you're into that. We hadn't even finished our first cocktail at the bar before being ushered to our table outdoors on the patio. Real urban feel out there, brings the city to the forefront of your senses. The menu and smells from the kitchen provide a great distraction.
The food was delicious, cooked too perfection and served fast. We had surf and turf between the pair of us, one ordered the steak, the other the crab legs. It was a lot of food. And delicious.
We didn't have leftovers.
I recommend this place for anyone who wants that city feel, like if a friend

This place has been a favorite for at least 20 years. It's a great no frills hole in the wall with the best food.
Our favorite, the king crab legs and beef tenderloin are always cooked perfectly. An absolute must on the north side.

Talked about going for oysters and crab legs and Half Shell won hands down. Tables outside are comfortable and allows a more comfortable family experience. The bar and indoors space is low key and lively. Started with a Manhattan and dozen oysters. Recommend ordering the Fresh Blue points along with Crab Cakes, tasty hand made patties without much filler. Dinner was King and Snow Crab legs, Frog legs and a Cheeseburger just for kicks. Crab legs were delicious, served with house tartar, garlic butter and cocktail sauce on a bed of fries.
Frog legs are just as remember, crunchy and well spiced like
