The National Association of Investment Companies (NAIC) is a Washington DC-based trade association and the largest network of diverse-owned private equity firms and hedge funds. Through education, advocacy and other innovative programs, the NAIC is focused on increasing the flow of capital to high-performing diverse investment managers often underutilized by institutional investors.

For fifty years, NAIC has represented a vibrant and growing population of diverse-owned private equity firms and hedge funds, with a track record and ongoing performance that is competitive with the broader market. The NAIC was formed in 1971 as the American Association of MESBICs, with early members joining from diverse communities including: Asian, Hasidic Jewish, Orthodox Jewish, African American and Latino communities.
For more than fifty years, NAIC's overarching objective has been to bridge the opportunity gap for diverse-owned investment companies. NAIC member firms deploy hundreds of millions of dollars in professional services spend in the course of raising capital, buying and selling companies, etc. Their portfolio companies represent exponentially greater spend in the areas of financial, legal, accounting, human capital, and various other areas.
Partnership with NAIC provides unprecedented access to some of the nation's largest and most successful diverse asset managers. Collectively, NAIC members' 873 portfolio companies represent over 554,688 jobs throughout the US economy. Additionally, NAIC member portfolio companies have headquarters in 36 countries globally with a strong presence in Western Europe, North Africa, Asia and South America.
NAIC has relationships with each of these Institutional Investor member organizations, which support NAIC's mission to increase diversity in the industry. The American Investment Council (AIC) is an advocacy and resource organization established to develop and provide information about the private investment industry and its contributions to the long-term growth of the U.S. economy and retirement security of American workers.
