Great Lakes Carpentry
Talk with founder and contractor Randy Nilsson for just a few minutes, and you'll know that Great Lakes Carpentry's emphasis on being green rises from a true passion for earth-friendly building practices.

That commitment is clear at every level: from the way we precision-stack logs and seal building envelops so that damage-causing moisture can't get into or out of homes, to our focus on staying educated on the newest building science being developed in the U.S. and Europe.A native of Chicago who has worked in the construction trades since 1974, Randy fell in love with the Northwoods at first sight.
Services
Green Home construction ushers in a new era of energy efficient building, employing airtight construction, super-insulation, and heat-recovery fresh-air ventilation to achieve up to 90% reductions in energy used for heating and cooling. Energy-efficient Timberpeg timber frame homes let you combine your passion for fine design with your commitment to living in harmony with nature.
Great Lakes Carpentry offers the widest variety of styles of energy-efficient homes in the Northwoods, and each of our homes are built to stand the test of time. Unlike most houses out there, whose little gaps in the building envelope and leaky windows leave homes guzzling energy in winter, our homes are Energy Sippers.
Timberpeg homes are based on a modular system of design and engineering that makes them infinitely adaptable in style, layout and size. Although Timberpeg has over 50 timber frame floor plans to choose from, almost all of the timber frame buildings we produce are custom designed to meet specific lifestyle, budget and site requirements.
As a certified builder for Pukall Log Homes, we provide locally grown and milled kiln-dried logs. Properly dried logs help build a tight, energy-efficient log home and reduce the risk of settling and shrinkage. We can provide FSC-certified logs upon request. From rustic weekend retreats to executive homes, no other type of building characterizes the natural beauty and relaxed lifestyle of our Wisconsin Northwoods like a log home.
Great Lakes Carpentry is proud to have earned a Certified Green Building Professional designation through the National Association of Home Builders; we are a trade ally of Focus On Energy New Homes Program. Our homes meet stringent requirements for certification through these programs. Your home will be comfortable, safe, durable and energy-efficient--and it will be built with the environment in mind.

Luke Richards is right up there with Jesus as one of the best carpenters of all time...ok, I can’t prove that, but standby for some great carpentry.
