John E Roberts Funeral Home
The John E. Roberts Funeral Home was established in 1932 by Thomas Roberts and his son John in the Old First Ward. Thomas owned a livery service that provided horse-drawn hearses to funeral directors. He was the first in Western New York to own and operate motorized hearses, an idea that caught on over time.

The business later moved to Elmwood Avenue, and in 1955, John Roberts formed a partnership with Raymond Potts at the Elmwood and Hertel locations. This lasted until Potts retired in 1964. John's wife Mary, was also active in the John E. Roberts business and in 1949 became one of the first women in the state to become a licensed funeral director.

This section contains useful information about what to do when death occurs, frequently asked questions and the differences between a burial service, and a cremation service. Family and friends getting together to honor a loved one's life is one of the most important steps in the grieving and healing process.
No matter if a death is sudden, or if it something that was a long time coming, the loss of a loved one makes us feel emotional and overwhelmed. No amount of preparation can fully prepare you for the loss of a loved one. When you are in a heightened emotional state, even the most basic decisions can seem staggering.
Traditionally, a burial service involves a visitation, followed by a funeral service in a church, or other place of worship. The casket is typically present at both these events, and it is your decision on whether to have the casket open or not. You have the option of having the remains interred (earth burial), or it may be entombed in a crypt inside a mausoleum (above ground burial).

If you are in need of funeral services for your loved one, a place where the entire staff is professional, compassionate, knowledgeable and helpful, this is the place.
We will be forever grateful for the beautiful way Anne and her staff handled every detail, especially the information concerning our brother’s burial in the WNY Veteran’s Cemetery.
May God bless you for being such a blessing. The family of Wilbur T. Haynes, Jr.

John E Roberts Funeral Home stood out from all of the others I looked into by being candid and straightforward regarding costs, services and procedures.
Their initial quote was exactly what I ended up paying, to the dollar. There were no "hidden fees" or inappropriate upselling shenanigans (which I can't say for many of the other funeral homes I contacted). Much to my relief, they were honest from start to finish.
I was also impressed with how quickly and professionally Anne responded to my inquiries and requests. She was a pleasure to deal with and I appreciate everything she did to make a difficult

The funeral director, Anne, was so helpful and so accommodating when it came to figuring out how to meet my culture’s standards of a funeral. There was some extra things we needed to do before the funeral for my stepdad who passed away and Anne made everything work for us. The funeral took place right in the middle of the Covid-19 lockdown, so a lot of our family was unable to travel and Anne acquired equipment to be able to do Facebook live, so we can stream the funeral and our family can get the closure they needed. Anne made getting closure a little bit easier and I appreciate the funeral

Excellent is every respect.

Sadly, my adult son recently died and John E. Robert Funeral Home handled all the arrangements. They did so efficiently and seamlessly and their pricing was more than fair. I highly recommend this establishment for those in need.

Charlie was amazing. I couldn't have asked for a better experience when I had my father handled with such care by Charlie. He was there for me morning and night and I never had any concern with any part of the process. Charlie took as much time as I needed to understand the process until everything was complete. I highly recommend this home!

Charlie and Jim were just wonderful. I have never had to make arrangements before, but when my mom passed they took care of everything with such compassion and professionalism. They were more than fair with pricing, and the attention to detail was beyond compare. Do not look elsewhere. They will take care of you and your loved ones .

My brother passed away unexpectedly and we were referred to John Roberts funeral home. Jim was absolutely wonderful! He went way over and above. Our first conversation was at 1:00 in the morning, and he worked diligently to make sure my brother was buried in a very short amount of time. I can not stress how hard he worked for my family and I would recommend him hands down!

Just 3 weeks ago my brother passed away at the young age of 64. The social worker at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital provided me with the name of a funeral home out of the 3 or so she recommends. She handed me a hand written paper with John E Roberts on it and the phone number. Jim Roberts was compassionate from the phone calls to the in person meeting. "JERF" is one of the last family owned funeral homes in the area. Most are huge conglomerates and i'm sure those costs are considerably higher.

Mr. Roberts is working with the county to see if some costs would be covered. He
