Services
I am an attorney with over 25 years of experience. In 2003 I established The Law Office of D. Kathleen Rus, Esq. My practice focuses on the areas of estate planning and administration, business law, and tax-exempt organizations. Before opening my own firm, I practiced as a tax attorney in the areas of individual, corporate and estate taxes, employee benefits, trusts and estates, and tax-exempt organizations.
I have over 25 years of experience working with clients and their estate planning and business legal needs. Whether your situation is simple or complicated, I will design a plan that works specifically for you, in the most cost-efficient manner possible without any "upselling." Kathleen is a Wills, Trusts, Estates, & Business Law attorney, and a member of the Maryland Bar.
Planning for the future of your loved ones in the event of your death can be a confusing process. My estate planning lawyer services in Maryland are designed to make this process as simple and as comfortable as possible.
In the event of your death, your estate plan will assure that your assets are distributed and used in accordance with your wishes, that your minor children or disabled loved ones are taken care of, and that you and your family can take advantage of the most favorable tax treatment available.

For some people, a revocable living trust can be more effective than a will. One of its advantages is that your assets pass to your heirs without having to go through probate-the process by which a court oversees the distribution of your assets. That can result in significant savings if you have a large estate or if you own property in more than one state, where multiple probate proceedings may be required.
It may surprise you to learn that less than half of American adults have wills. Why? Probably inertia. People know they're going to pass away eventually, but few plan to go in the near future. Unfortunately, if you die suddenly without a will, you'll be leaving your family with a lot of unnecessary confusion at a very difficult emotional time.
