Duckweed got its beginning one Sunday morning in 2011 when our original owners, who lived in downtown Tampa, realized they were out of eggs and couldn't make the breakfast that they had planned to prepare.
Wishing there was a local downtown grocery market, the two instantly realized a need for a downtown location to buy groceries. And so we began! Desiring to support the local Tampa community by purchasing groceries that are made locally. Back in 2011, on a Sunday morning in downtown Tampa, a young couple awoke to find they had forgotten to get eggs for their breakfast. The two looked at each other and at the same time said "Sure wish there was a cute little store we could run down to and get what we need, " and from that moment of necessity Duckweed was born!
We may not be little anymore, but we're still the cute urban grocery store where you can buy all the items you need - and want - from the convenience of your downtown or Channel District neighborhood! We got our start back in 2011 when our original owners - who lived downtown and were short on eggs for breakfast - wished there was a local place to get groceries in downtown Tampa.
If you're looking for a local place to buy adult beverages in Tampa, then you absolutely must visit the liquor store attached to our Channel District grocery store! We attached a liquor store to our Channel District grocery store location when we realized there was a shortage of places to purchase beer, wine, and spirits in the neighborhood.
We know that local vegans have limited options when it comes to finding locations to buy the grocery staples they need to cook and eat their healthy, animal product-free diet. That's why we're proud to offer a variety of vegan food selections to Tampa residents, particularly in downtown and the Channel District.

I came here to go to the Farmacy Vegan Restaurant. The restaurant turned out to be closed, but the woman working the counter was friendly and I browsed around. She apologized that they closed at 5 PM. I ended up finding a cigar city seltzer which I've been looking for. Luckily, the vegan restaurant had some items to go. I purchased a few and will try them out later.
This grocery store is located in an apartment complex. Use your GPS to find it because if you're trying to find it on your own, you'll probably drive right past it like I did. Luckily there are roundabouts in the area
